new year's music resolutions

Hey there you are, so very nice to catch you once again. Welcome to the furious fifth installment of these little blog segments as PiercingMetal continues to share with you the New Year’s Metal or Musical Resolutions for 2012 as offered up by some incredibly talented people. I’ve really enjoyed being able to learn what these most Metal mavens have on their minds and judging by the traffic response so have you fine readers back at home. Check these out.

Jack Frost (lead guitarist for Seven Witches): “Well my New Years Metal Rez is I wanna try to continue n make another in ur face record. There’s nothing like haveing fans tell u how much ur music means to them n gets them through the tough times in their lives. And to try to play live more so my son can come n raise his devil horns to me”.

Ronny Munroe (vocals Trans-Siberian Orchestra, former Metal Church/Lillian Axe): “My New Years Resolution is to continue working on being the best father, friend and person I can be and to spread as much happiness as I can to the ones who need it. Corny I know but thats my resolution”.

Jaymz Lennfield (vocals/guitar for Beatallica): “My New Year’s Musical Resolution is to be as focused as ever on being creative, clever, and fun…and if I can’t, then screw it.”

Anvil @ Highline Ballroom (11/7/2011)

Artist: Anvil
Venue: Highline Ballroom (New York, NY)
Opener: Shitkill
Date: 11/7/2011
Label: The End Records

It’s been around a year since I last caught Anvil and that made me glad to find the group playing over at the Highline Ballroom because this is such a good venue to see a Metal band in. They have a great stage, lighting rig and so far I’ve never attended a bad sounding show. Now as you all well know, Anvil had been riding high on the success of the film “Anvil: The Story Of Anvil” for a few years now and as result had moved from relative obscurity to larger levels of success and doing tours with bands like AC/DC and being offered better set times on numerous festival appearances in Europe. It seemed as though the band was once again being paid in cash money as opposed to goulash. If you don’t know the reference then you really must sit down and enjoy the film. It’s been a recommendation of mine for quite some time. Here is how the show went down for those who did not manage to attend.

Diamond Head @ B.B. King Blues Club (9/1/2011)

Artist: Diamondhead
Venue: B.B. King Blues Club (New York, NY)
Opener: Shitkill, Livesay
Date: 9/1/2011
Label: Independent Artist

A few months ago there was a reasonable buzz hitting The Metal Republic about a tour that was listed as being the NWOBHM Tour (or the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal tour for those who don’t yet know the acronym for some reason). This event was originally set to feature singer Al Atkins (who was the original voice behind a pre-signed Judas Priest), Girlschool and Diamond Head. Now many felt this tour would sell out immediately based on Diamond Head having never been on these shores before during the course of their career and to my knowledge Atkins had never performed here either. I will admit that I was not clear about when the last time Girlschool played around these parts but soon it would not matter as Girlschool and Atkins pulled out of the event and the larger tour was cancelled in full which disappointed many of the fans that had already purchased tickets. Soon enough a booking was made for Diamond Head alone at the Metal home away from home that we have here on PiercingMetal.com (B.B. King’s for those not paying attention) and this regional show would feature local support from Livesay and Shitkill. Sadly, my early evening activities prevented me from seeing both of the local openers but I know that they would be back around soon enough and sometimes I just have the time and Metal energy for the headlining act to get the best possible scoop so here is how the Diamond Head part of the night went.
