Earlier today, the nominations for the 72nd Academy Awards (aka “The Oscars”) were announced and while you can peruse the full list that was posted on “The Chronicles Of Piercing Ken” by clicking HERE – I’m using this post to celebrate the “11” nominations that the “Joker” film received. It’s a great day to be a fan of Geek Culture stuff. Take a look.
The Statement:
Congratulations to the incredible filmmakers and cast of Joker Movie on their 11 #OscarNoms, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. #Joker
We’ve posted a number of items about the film already which you can examine HERE in the event that you didn’t get to see it yet. It made just over $1 billion dollars at the box office and has just recently been released on home video DVD and Blu-ray. I’ve a link for you to order it down below if you are interested. Back in August, we shared what amounted to be the Final Trailer for the new Warner Brothers Pictures film “Joker” and if you didn’t see that post and our editorial thoughts just click HERE to be up to speed about it. This Warner Brothers Pictures feature opens today in theaters everywhere and stars Joaquin Phoenix as the title character. Let’s remind ourselves of the Theatrical Poster, some premise and the casting. I’ll even toss in an extra poster or two as I found some.
When I first discussed the soon to be opening film “Joker” here on PiercingMetal’s Pop Culture focuses (seen HERE), I had pointed out that outside the success of “Wonder Woman”, “Aquaman” and “SHAZAM!” films (all three of which I loved); The DC Extended Universe is a hot mess. Since that time there has been less and less discussion of the connected universe and one has to assume that they have given up on the idea. This isn’t good in my humble opinion because not only did Marvel Studios make it work, they are responsible for the highest grossing film of all time with “Avengers: Endgame” (celebrated HERE). A “Joker” film connected to the others might be more interesting but this is apparently not but that being said the Final Trailer was just recently revealed so let’s take a look.
Outside of the success of “Wonder Woman”, “Aquaman” and the potentially fun appeal of the “SHAZAM!” film (which opens this Friday); The DC Extended Universe is a hot mess. Films like “Man Of Steel” were moderately received and “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” was a ponderous effort that bore little reward while “Justice League”, well, let’s not discuss the absolute bomb that this ended up being. Resultant of this there will be offshoot films that while featuring DC Comics characters will not be connected to a properly shared universe. The first such film is “Joker” and the teaser clip was just released so let’s take a look.
As the memories of the recent “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” film slowly fade and our nerdy data banks open themselves up to the next installment from Warner Brothers Pictures that continues the build of the DC Extended Universe with “Suicide Squad”. The film features a number of the DC Universes deadliest villains who are teamed together to fight even nastier menaces. I’ve enjoyed the comic series over its many incarnations and only hope we get a better presentation than what we were left with in “BVS”. Earlier today WB release 2 sets of “11” character posters and I love sharing that stuff with you here as a part of our “On Screen” stuff. Check them out.
