Well. We’ve arrived at the opening day of the now very much maligned “Fantastic Four” film which is a complete reboot by director Josh Trank. It takes place outside of the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe since the property is under the control of 20th Century Fox based on a deal made so many years ago. The second trailer was shared HERE along with some additional posters for those interested in checking out it and down below you’ll find the Official Poster, premise and casting. Enjoy if you plan on going.

20th Century Fox: “Fantastic Four” Official Trailer 2

Considering my overall acrimony about the upcoming “Fantastic Four” film, I’m back again to share another look at what is heading our way with this film. I didn’t like what I saw in the clip seen HERE so let’s see if the second go-round makes me feel any different. As most know by now, this is NOT a proper Marvel Studios film and is another attempt to dilute the “Fantastic Four” property by 20th Century Fox. To keep your interest and website visiting time a little longer, I’ve added some of the promotional posters that I found as well. Here goes nothing….

The Premise: Four young outsiders teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe which alters their physical form in shocking ways. The four must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

The Cast:
Miles Teller as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic
Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch
Kate Mara as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman
Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing
Toby Kebbell as Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom
Tim Blake Nelson as Harvey Allen
Reg E. Cathey as Franklin Storm

Additionally, Dan Castellaneta portrays Mr. Kenny, Reed’s teacher and Tim Heidecker appears as Mr. Richards, Reed’s stepfather. Chet Hanks, son of actor Tom Hanks, has a minor appearance as Jimmy Grimm, Ben’s older brother.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: As you can see this does look to be action packed but I am thinking there is a lot of build up time to be found in the film. They’ve made a number of changes to the canon of the original First Family to reflect modern times and I didn’t feel this was necessary. The Four themselves look “okay” at best with The Thing being a bit more unnerving in presentation. It’s hard to compare him as to how Michael Chiklis did him but I think I would have liked a closer to the original look than what we go and then there is Doctor Doom. For most comic book fans Doctor Doom is one of the deadliest super-villains in the Marvel Comics canon and the trailer leads me to think he gets his powers along with the other four. Much like that first go-round they did in that film from 2005. Way to be original Fox. Anyway, this one opens in August and I am thinking that I will be passing on it. For years I loved the FF comic book and this presentation of them look more “meh” than “hooray”. What about you readers? Are you seeing this one based on the second trailer? Chime in down below.

Marvel Comics’ “Fantastic Four” #645 – “The End” Is Here

I can hardly believe that I am penning these words to you (uhm, typing them I mean since we are an online resource of course), but after over 50 years of publication, Marvel Comics is cancelling the “Fantastic Four” comic book at issue #645. Check out the cover and some description below.

"Fantastic Four" #645
“Fantastic Four” #645

THE MOST CONTROVERSIAL FANTASTIC FOUR STORY CONCLUDES IN AN EXTRA-SIZED SPECIAL! Will the Fantastic Four defeat The Quiet Man and the corrupted forces of the Heroes Reborn universe? Will the Johnny get his powers back? Will Reed and Sue be a family again? Will this be the end or will this be 4ever?

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Now I realize that I have already mentioned this a few days ago based on needing to share the additional covers that would be featured on this particular issue but the cancellation of such a title is forcing me to expand upon that post right here and offer more personal insights and reflection. This was shocking news to me since I was a “Fantastic Four” reader for many years and have a few hundred issues of the series in my collection somewhere. It was really great stuff with a lot of fascinating characters. I was too young to fully appreciate the earliest tales unless they were in a trade paperback edition but the works of Lee and Kirby were awesome for sure. Some of my favorite tales also came care of John Byrne and I loved Galactus, The Silver Surfer, Doctor Doom and even Impossible Man as far as their interactions. The title was the launching point for many iconic characters of course and I am speaking of The Watcher, The Inhumans, Black Panther and so many others. Most of our readers know that the team is not a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we get to enjoy with films like “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Avengers” etcetera which is because the rights are owned by 20th Century Fox. The studio is releasing a third “Fantastic Four” film in August sometime and based on posts that know what is going on in the film I am a little scared. Too many drastic canon changes and that is just foolish. There was even a rumor that the series cancellation was based on Marvel higher ups being pissed about the translation of the franchise in the upcoming film. It was later denied but who knows, it wouldn’t surprise me and if Fox screws this one up they should just get rid of the rights and let Marvel Studios deliver a fun film with these great characters. With this news being the topic of my day I think I will watch the 2005 “Fantastic Four” film and head to the comic book store to grab a copy of the final issue before it sells out. What do you readers think about the series cancellation news? Were you reading the “Fantastic Four” recently or had done so in the past? Let me know your thoughts about it all in the comments.

In a few short days, comic book fans will find the final chapter of a thrilling story by The Fantastic Four taking place with issue #645 of their decades running series. Will they overcome the odds? Only the pages of this issue will line that out and even more jarring than the stories outcome is the news that this will be the series final issue. Yes with #645, Marvel Comics is cancelling “The Fantastic Four”. Check out the premise from Marvel.com

Back in January I shared the Teaser Trailer from 20th Century Fox’s reboot of Marvel Comics own “Fantastic Four” (seen HERE) and based on what was put out there along with the information about some of the changes to the mythology that fans have known for decades the response was less than spectacular. Granted we didn’t really see that much in the teaser but after a few views of the clip it appeared to be more of a Science Fiction film that a Super-hero one and speaking frankly it didn’t do much for me. Earlier today we got a full official trailer that shows our heroes and their powers along with more of the plot so check it out below and then lets discuss.

The Premise: Four young outsiders teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe which alters their physical form in shocking ways. The four must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
