Opening: “Alien: Covenant” in Theaters Everywhere (5/19/2017)

As previously discussed, a sequel of sorts is coming for “Prometheus” by way of “Alien: Covenant” and all of these things are still stories that happened way BEFORE the first “Alien” film. I posted the Official Trailer some time ago on THIS LINK and now my Xenomorph loving friends, the time for the opening of this film is here. Behold the Theatrical Release poster along with premise and casting. My two cents will close this up.

The Plot: Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant find what they believe to be an uncharted paradise. What the crew discover is a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. (thanks Wiki)

Opening Today: “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes” (8/5/2011)

“It’s time for a little monkey business my dear readers” and don’t tell me that you didn’t see that one coming from me. That being said, today is the day that “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes” opens up in theaters near you. Check out the poster.

Poster - Rise of the Planet of the Apes - 2011

In reading the film’s Wiki Entry we find that “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is a 2011 American science fiction film directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring the cast listed below. It has been written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, it is 20th Century Fox’s reboot of the “Planet of the Apes” series and thereby serves as an origin story for a new series of films. Its premise is similar to the fourth film in the original series, “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes” (1972), but it is not a direct remake in that it does not fit into that series’ continuity. Considering its a reboot it is not connected to the film “Planet Of The Apes” which starred Mark Wahlberg and premiered in 2001. I guess that is a good thing since to me the only thing good in that film was the makeup by Rick Baker. Of course mine is only one opinion and I loved the original franchise. I pretty much grew up with these first films and remember my Grandmother being brave enough to sit through all five in one sitting at a movie house in Greenpoint. Thanks again Nan 🙂 – To the best of my knowledge the television series was something I also enjoyed and I had all of the Mego action figures of the time. Sadly I no longer have these figures and they are worth a few bucks so that kind of stinks.

What are your thoughts on there being a reboot of the now decade old revisit to this franchise? Are you excited? Do you care? Will you see it? Let me know in the comments but please try to stray away from any spoilers unless announcing that there is spoilers in your submission. I don’t want anyone’s fun ruined after all.

Without going into too many details about it, the film appears to be more of an Action Packed Superhero Comedy as opposed to the playing it on the dramatic edge like the original television series was. Part of me is not too sure how this will work out because I really liked how the series was first presented as a crime drama and of course in that episode of the way classic “Batman” series where the two teams butted heads. If you’ve never seen it I can tell you with some certainty that it is on YouTube.com, just search for “A Piece Of The Action”, oh heck just click HERE 🙂 The crossover episode was the lead into the Hornet’s own short lived series and it starred Van Williams and Bruce Lee. To me it doesn’t seem smart playing it up as comedy but who knows, maybe it will be a fun ride just the same.

I’ve been a fan of The Green Hornet for a few years now and always enjoyed how he was on the side of the right but played it up as a master criminal. It was clever to see it done that way and when they issued a comic book title on the long defunct NOW! Comics, I bought a copy each and every month. I still have them somewhere in my collection. I am not too sure if the collected edition of some of those tales is still in print but if you can find one its a recommendation. Hopefully the movie does good, only time will tell.

Sadly the referenced classic sixties “Green Hornet” television series AND the “Batman” series where most fans of a certain age got their first glimpse of the character are NOT yet available on DVD for purchase. The movie serials that preceded them are however as are a number of books which I have embedded here for your perusal.
