“XXX” by Repulsur

Artist: Repulsur
Title: “XXX”
Label: Independent Artist
Release Date: 4/28/2016
Genre: Alternative Metal/Hard Rock
Rating: 4/5

The other day while attending the regional appearance of Wednesday 13, I hit the merchandise table and learned that working with the band on the tour was the lead singer of a group called Repulsur; She goes by the stage name of Lerin-gitis but I’m sure that you can call her Lerin if you are given permission. She had the bands EP “XXX” with her and I was happy to get a copy of it to discuss here on the website. “XXX” is a really driving 3 song EP that begins with a raspy growl in “The Learning Curve”. Lerin doesn’t have a sweet and demure sort of vocal register and instead came off with the kind of commanding voice that one might have found in the daughter of the late great Lemmy and Wendy Williams might have given us. The chorus of this one might find you raising a fist into the air along with her if you should see a concert performance.

Singer Liv Jagrell Announces Solo Career – Liv Sin!!!

We loved everything about the band Sister Sin in terms of music and their live concert presentation. It was rocking and it was super energetic on the stage and when they broke up last year a sigh of sadness hit us here at the Metal Command HQ. This of course was not even half as big as the despair that hit the bands longtime fans around the world. I vowed to keep up with their individual adventures going forward and when I saw the official press release by the bands former singer Liv Jagrell I knew that I had to share it with you all. Check out the statement below and then I’ll return.

The Press Release:
May 3, 2016 – From the gutters of south Sweden, Liv “Sin” Jagrell emerged as a major force as the vocalist for hard rockers Sister Sin. Throughout their 13 year career, Sister Sin sold thousands of albums and toured the world with high profile tours supporting the likes of Slayer and King Diamond on the Rockstar Mayhem festival tour, as well as being a part of the Revolver Magazine ”Hottest Chicks in Metal” tour. Sister Sin toured relentlessly for over a decade across Europe and North America garnering an intensely loyal following of rockers that craved the band’s aggressive and melodic brand of hard rock.

“Stay Wild” by Syka

Artist: Syka
Title: “Stay Wild”
Label: Independent Artist
Release Date: 7/17/2015
Genre: Hard Rock
Rating: 4/5

I’ve had the Syka “Stay Wild” EP on my to do list for a little longer than I planned and as someone who has seen the group in action on the live stage a handful of times by now felt that I should throw together some thoughts about this rather solid offering. For those still new to the name, Syka is a young up and coming Hard Rock band from the New Jersey side of the metropolitan area and I should let you know that they refer to their sound as “Dark Glam”. After spinning the CD a few times I’ll totally agree with that but of course Hard Rock works pretty well too. Fronted by the talented and beautiful Jesyka, the band delivers a power packed punch that quickly makes you realize that this group means business and is willing to deliver a solid product to your musical mind. It all starts off with “Shock Me” where we get some slower textures in the track until it kicks in with a crescendo that truly showcases the register that Jesyka possesses along with a crunching riff from guitarist Greg Sgar. “Stay Wild” would follow this and struck me as the kind of song that one might expect to hear in a movie soundtrack since it’s a fast paced and just made me think of the band playing on a stage at some venue while the cast did their stuff around them. That might sound strange but in any case it was during this one that I found myself tapping the table and singing along to the words that I knew.

“Cola” (Single) by Dommin

Artist: Dommin
Title: “Cola” (Single)
Label: Independent Artist
Release Date: 11/4/2015
Genre: Gothic Rock
Rating: 3.5/5

A few months ago I mentioned that Dommin had done a cover of Duran Duran’s “Save A Prayer” as a part of their Pledgemusic initiative. If you missed that discussion, just click HERE to get a refresher course and then come back to us so we can continue along. Alright, so the second cover being offered up by the guys is a Lana Del Ray track called “Cola” and I must admit that I have only ever heard this singers name in the recent past more than any of her music. With that being the case I listened to her version first to have some actual background. The tune hails from her “Born To Die” album if you were curious.
