HIM Announces “Farewell Tour”; Love Metal Legends Hitting The Road For The Last Time

Now this is news that brings me great sadness as the music of HIM in concert was truly something that I have enjoyed since first deciding to try my skills at being a music scribe. The statement below comes from the bands Official Facebook Page and delineates their first stages as they call it a career. Read on.

The Facebook Post:
Following a long radio silence, Finnish rock giants HIM have announced a farewell tour, closing the final chapter on their 26 year career.

“After quarter of a century of Love and Metal intertwined we sincerely feel HIM has run its unnatural course and adieus must be said in order to make way for sights, scents and sounds yet unexplored. We completed the pattern, solved the puzzle and turned the key. Thank you.” Says frontman Ville Valo

Formed in 1991 by vocalist Ville Valo, guitarist Mikko “Linde” Lindström and bassist Mikko “Migé” Paananen, HIM truly stand out as one of the rock world’s most unique acts. Beautifully blending metal, goth and hard rock with deep, thoughtful and moving lyrics, HIM offered the world a new take on the metal genre, which became known as Love Metal (also the title of their fourth album).

Over the course of eight studio albums, HIM captured the hearts and minds of fans across the globe, drawn by their irresistible and inimitable style. Under the banner of their Heartagram logo – a potent symbol encapsulating the juxtaposition of the light and dark, the fierce and forlorn, and the evil and love found in their music – HIM filled venues and crashed charts the world over, collecting numerous awards, gracing countless magazine covers and becoming the first Finnish act to achieve Gold status in the USA.

H.I.M.’s North American “Tears On Tour” Is Cancelled

Poster - HIM - Tears On Tour - 2013

Early in the day on Saturday I started seeing some tweets that the Friday evening performance by the Finnish Rockers HIM had been cancelled just before the band was going to take the stage based on the groups singer, the enigmatic Ville Vallo, having suffered a severe asthma attack and needing to be hospitalized. At the time there was no official word from their tour press so all hoped that this was merely a scare and the run of dates would get picked up for the Saturday appearance. From here I observed cancellations being listed on Ticketmaster while the bands Unofficial Street Team Twitter informed all that the full run of six dates had been cancelled. While this news started making the rounds on numerous other websites, the released details about what had happened have only just a moment ago come to light from their official press outlet. Now I could do my own post on this as I prefer to wait than speculate on anything and this is because as a writer I have been following and reporting on the band HIM since before there was even a PiercingMetal to begin with and you can see our views on them HERE. This will lead you to all coverage done about the band on the website.

Official Statement:
HIM’s North American tour (which was due to kick off in Los Angeles on May 3rd at the House Of Blues) has been cancelled due to unforeseen medical circumstances. HIM’s lead vocalist Ville Valo has been diagnosed with severe asthma with presumptive pneumonia. Tickets for all dates will be refunded at the point of purchase. HIM will be back later this summer as part of the Rock Allegiance tour.

We’ve been proudly following the musical adventures of the band H.I.M. since their first US tour back in 2004 and we’re always glad to catch them in concert when they come to visit New York. This time around the band would be supporting their latest and greatest release entitled “Venus Doom” and the show would be at the Nokia Theatre in the heart of Times Square. Venue: Nokia Theatre Times Sq. (New York, NY)
Opener: Bleeding Through
Date: 12/1/2007
Label: Sire Records

When I think back upon the last few years in terms of all the band’s that I have been able to see when they come to the United States, I have to smile when I think of just how much I have enjoyed having HIM be one of the groups that I have watched from their very first visit to our region. I continued this support of their efforts as they reached for bigger and brighter heights with each go round and have found myself impressed each and every time. My own interest in HIM began in 2003 even though they had been around a little bit longer, and when they first came to the USA in 2004 for shows in NYC at The Bowery Ballroom I knew that we music fans were finally getting a special treat. It’s been interesting watching the band rise in popularity and seeing them sell out two nights in a row in the Big Apple with each go round and while last time they played the Hammerstein Ballroom, this evening would be the first of two sold out shows at the Nokia Theatre. I’ve been to this space a few times since they began holding Metal and Rock shows here and I felt this was the perfect setting for the way Ville Vallo and his friends do their thing. They would have Bleeding Through as their sole opener but we would bypass them and enjoy some of the holiday air of the Big Apple. Tonight was all about HIM for me, and no opening band was going to keep my interest no matter how hard they tried.
