It was only a few days ago that I had gotten my hands on the Official Press Release about the upcoming Broadway musical experience known as “Rocktopia” and since the worlds attention span is so fleeting nowadays HERE is that notice in case you missed it for some reason. This past Tuesday I had the honor and pleasure of watching a few numbers from the upcoming show at the legendary SIR Studios. Check out my brief about the experience and get excited for “Rocktopia”.
For me, a Broadway show is one of those experiences that cannot easily be explained. I think that they are wonderous and while I don’t get to as many as I would like to based on the occasional difficult ticket or the price tag on a good seat, when I do go it’s something that I find myself talking about for weeks on end. I’ve leaned on the musical more than anything dramatic and have added “Grease” (during its original run and redo), “Miss Saigon”, “Pirates Of Penzance”, “Sweeney Todd”, “Little Shop Of Horrors”, “Wicked” and “Rent”. Hmm, maybe I should start doing reviews of this stuff on PiercingKen.com but I digress. My appreciation for the theatre and all of the talented people that make things happen made the invite to the press preview for “Rocktopia” at SIR Studios a very awesome thing. Here’s my thoughts on the proceedings.
Artist: The Lynch Mob Venue: B.B. King Blues Club (New York, NY) Opener: Sonic Bliss, Willie Basse Date: 1/31/2011 Label: Frontiers Records
It was exactly six months to the day when I last caught a once again touring Lynch Mob and that was when the band was acting as direct support for the Michael Schenker Group back in July. The show was great but Lynch and his merry mates only played about seven songs which left the fans that were excited to see him up there again leaving slightly disappointed with the short set. That made tonight’s appearance at B.B. King’s something that they were looking forward to because it was announced that he would be performing a combined “Best Of” set of both Lynch Mob and Dokken material with his band. I had to admit that this interested me very much especially when you considered how drummer “Wild” Mick Brown was once again working with the axe slinger. That made this particular configuration of the group as close to the original as possible with the exception of original bassist Anthony Esposito. The second change in the lineup for tonight would be on bass, as Robbie Crane from Ratt was in place for this go round. The openers listed for the show would be both Sonic Bliss and Wille Basse but I would not catch them and only focus my attention on Mr. Lynch. Continue reading Lynch Mob @ B.B. Artist: Ted Nugent Title: “Motor City Mayhem” [Blu-ray] Label: Eagle Vision Release Date: 6/30/2009 Genre: Hard Rock Rating: 4/5
Having reviewed this DVD when it originally was released on standard edition DVD and finding no real difference other than the presentation on the Blu-ray medium I am re-presenting my words about this issue for those fans who might not own it yet. Please continue.
While it’s probably safe to say that if you have seen one Ted Nugent live video concert then you have seen them all since many follow a particular standard when it comes to the set list and one can always count on Uncle Ted being at his audience appeasing best with the guitar and his electric dialogue. That being said this particular DVD is yards ahead of the many that have preceded it and that’s because this is one of total celebration of a life lived and breathed in the fires of Hard Rock & Roll. Presenting “Motor City Mayhem”, the 6000th official show ever done by the musician, filmed in front of a hometown audience on July 4th 2008. It doesn’t get any more American if you ask me and the show starts off with a bang as members of the US Armed Forces greet the musician and as he enters and performs “The Star Spangled Banner”, an absolutely stunning young bikini clad model pops out of a giant cake. Talk about getting a party started right, and through it all Ted is his humble self telling the audience to wish him a happy anniversary before he kicks the show into gear. Of course no one seemed to be complaining by the looks of the crowd in the video. The live performance comes released to the masses a few short months after the CD that bore the same name and presented the full set on two discs for his fans to enjoy. Now the Nugent completist can properly see just what the audio teased them about by showcasing it on a nice big TV with the speakers pumping at full volume.
