PiercingMetal’s “Best Of” 2018: Top Nine On Instagram

Well how about that my friends, it appears as though we’ve once again arrived at the time where the Instagram “Top Nine” images are tabulated and that means you get to enjoy them as well. Over the course of 2018, I really was enjoying the use of Instagram as a social networking tool and I’m fairly certain that I used it a lot more than any of the other socials combined. The rundown will come after the image below so please take a gander. I figured that I’d offer up some background on them all.

About These Visuals: Starting from the top left hand corner we’ve got the band Paramore which is fronted by Hayley Williams and right next to that is the ominious Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and his own parmour Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy. A lot of you longer terms website readers will likely remember Alissa from The Agonist. Closing up the first row is Black Veil Brides singer Andy Black who was showing off a brand new comic graphic novel at the Last Rites Gallery. I’m not sure why they decided to cut off artist Eryk Donovan but that is the app for you. Sorry Eryk. The second row was from a great SiriusXM Town Hall with the legendary Judas Priest and that is the lads and myself post their interview at the station. It’s always great to say hello to The Priest and of course to support their live shows. The Brits are followed next by two images of the lovely and talented Riki “Riddle” Lecotey who is a cosplayer of some reknown. They were taken from The BoroughCon event and we just love her amazing designs. Our last row is the also legendary Glenn Hughes who was delivering a solo tour that celebrated his Deep Purple years. This row is completed by a visual from the Ghost Press Conference that was held by Papa Nihil and Sister Imperator and the great Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society and Ozzy Osbourne during his special appearance at the “Fear The Riff” Expo in Brooklyn. Good times. As you can see, the collage shows that we recieved 25.8K likes for the sum total of our 6,716 posted images. Though we’ve gone up over 1K followers to 1,419 the sum-total likes dropped a chunk in comparison to last year. I think this was based on our flipping between personal and business accounts to get some standings but in the business account we saw less people coming aboard much like the Facebook Official Page. Since Facebook owns Instagram a lot of the same algorithm stuff goes on and they want you to pay for ads which I am NOT going to do.

*** end of statement ***

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Though I’ve been a fan of this legendary musical figure quite a few years I’ve only ever caught him in concert a couple of times. Once was only a few short years ago and the other….well, let’s just say my younger readers weren’t even ideas yet but I digress. It’s going to be interesting to see him doing all these classic tunes as a showcase and to my knowledge he has never before toured a complete set of Deep Purple music. Let’s hope a recording of this is done as well since that would go over like gangbusters. As I’ve a mountain of “to do” in front of me and the website’s anniversary is tomorrow I am going to take my leave with a simple inquiry; What do you think about this tour? Will you attend? Will you go a couple of times? Fill me in down in the comments below.

“Thank You & Farewell” to Black Sabbath (1968-2017)

As everyone prepares for “The Big Game” with Super Bowl LI (which doesn’t mean the game is in Long Island BTW) I am thinking of more important things to my field of interests and a large portion of my mental focus today is the fact that yesterday the mighty Black Sabbath played their last gig ever and has closed their personal book on Heavy Metal history. “The End” is no longer near nor on its way and has instead arrived and passed. Today is the day that founding members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler sit back and rightfully rest upon their laurels and believe me there are many laurels to be sitting on after such a career. I thank them profusely for the just shy of fifty years that Metal music was delivered under the Black Sabbath banner. Of course, we have plenty of others to thank now as well with the original founders closing this historic tome so let’s raise the horns for them as well. The clip below is from the actual final shows ending moments and the images used are from the final show that happened in New Jersey late last year.

To the INCREDIBLE former members of the Black Sabbath lineup both living and deceased such as Bill Ward, Ronnie James Dio, Geoff Nichols, Dave Walker, Craig Gruber, Vinny Appice, Ian Gillan, Bev Bevan, Ron Keel, David Donato, Eric Singer, Dave Spitz, Glenn Hughes, Ray Gillen, Bob Daisley, Tony Martin, Terry Chimes, Jo Burt, Cozy Powell, Laurence Cottie, Neil Murray and Bobby Rondinelli. Some of these folks I never even realized had been members over the years but indeed they have and I thank them for their own offerings to the legendary name.

“Phoenix Rising” [Blu-ray] by Deep Purple

Artist: Deep Purple
Title: “Phoenix Rising” [Blu-ray]
Label: Eagle Vision
Release Date: 6/28/2011
Genre: Hard Rock
Rating: 4/5

PiercingMetal’s own Skeleton Pete had already coined the phrase “Purple Summer” when it’s came to Eagle Rock Entertainment’s issue of a wide selection of releases from the legendary Hard Rock band and it’s absolutely correct as they have been re-issuing classic material with bonus live and demo tracks as well as unearthing vintage documentary pieces such as this one on a quality medium with additions that make the buyer say “Wow this is awesome”. One such release is the recent “Phoenix Rising” which is a documentary film for the most part but also includes some archival concert footage that has never been fully issued to fans. “Phoenix Rising” deals with the Mark III and Mark IV era of the band and showcases that roster which featured David Coverdale, Glen Hughes and Tommy Bolin; Ritchie Blackmore had left the lineup and surprised many. Since I can hardly expand on the views that Pete gave us about this era of the band, I am linking to his review on the site as he covered the DVD/CD combo version of the release. I’ll toss in my thoughts on the subtle and not too subtle differences between this edition and the Blu-ray version that is also in my hands. Read on.
