After months of successful touring with his shred fest-ival “Gigantour” – Dave Mustaine and Megadeth present you with 90 plus minutes of pure unadulterated Heavy Metal glory. The show was filmed in October 2005 and comes to us from Buenos Aires, a region where the Metal is always well received and every performer is guaranteed an animated and enthusiastic audience. This is without question a part of the world that responds to the music well and without making any offense to other worldwide concert goers there was one fact of this DVD that remains with me clearly and that is the audience was actually singing the guitar solos. You hear it most prevalent during “Symphony Of Destruction” but it is also apparent around the whole show as well. I have yet to experience this at a US performance of anyone so I think we had best raise our game when our favorite groups come around. This reaction showed a pure love of the band and some 25,000 strong would find Megadeth on top of their game once again as they delivered one classic after another and also did justice to their new material from the latest release at the time – “The System Has Failed”. The lineup was tight as can be on all counts with Glen and Shawn Drover (guitar and drums) working alongside Mustaine as if this was the band they were in for longer than the year and a half it had actually been. Perhaps their being Brothers gives them an edge that many bands don’t have and a better working knowledge of each other that most can only hope practice will give them. Bass would be fluidly held down by James McDonough who has since moved on and been replaced by James Lomenzo (Black Label Society/White Lion). Megadeth celebrates their career with a worthy collection of videos and vignettes along with some unseen footage that will have every Rattlehead screaming for more. As a fan of their earlier material and the heyday of Metal video and MTV’s “Headbanger’s Ball” I enjoyed the chance to have all of their videos in one convenient package. However, to make sure that this would be accepted and received by a larger audience Mustaine made sure to include a large amount of clips and features that have not been seen in a number of years. There is a little of everything and among them are vintage MTV appearances as well as clips from the film “Decline Of Western Civilization” of which Megadeth was a guest star. Several cool touring segments are presented such as “Clash Of The Titans” (from 2000) as well as footage from the celebrated 2005 “Gigantour”. There are interviews and day in the life segments and the end result is a whopping double DVD set that is bound to please Metal fans of all ages. As many Metallers can agree Megadeth is one of the more important bands to have ever come around for the genre, and this DVD collection serves as a good way to remember why this is the case. Intelligent lyrically, and musically profound Megadeth has given Headbangers a solid thrashing from 1983 until now. Continue reading “Arsenal Of Megadeth” by Megadeth→

Artist: Megadeth Venue: Roseland Ballroom (New York, NY) Opener: Exodus Date: 11-10-2004 Label: Capitol Records
After the short hiatus due to a medical condition on his hand Dave Mustaine has recovered completely and not only recorded their latest opus entitled “The System Has Failed”, but also returned to the touring venues. This time around would be Roseland Ballroom in NYC. Openers would be legendary Bay Area thrashers Exodus but since I ran late that evening I missed their entire performance. I was not very happy about this since their latest CD has been very well-received. On talking with some audience members I was informed on how kick ass they had played. Oh well, I am sure they will return also. This seems to be a good year for metal shows, lots of great acts doing tours and almost everyone is hitting NYC.
