Exodus @ Gramercy Theatre (8/28/2010)

Venue: Gramercy Theatre (New York, NY)
Opener: Malevolent Creation, Holy Grail, Bonded By Blood

Label: Nuclear Blast Records

In my opinion there is nothing quite like a kick ass Metal show on a Saturday night and what better band to headline a gig like this than the one and only Exodus. Truly they are one of the Thrash Metal founders and even though the years have found a number of lineup changes taking place, the man with the axe has remained Gary Holt. Together with Lee Altus, Tom Hunting, Jack Gibson and Rob Dukes the band has been revitalizing the Thrash Metal scene with a brass knuckled punch in the jaw. They would return to the headlining spot for the tour and bring along their label mates Malevolent Creation and a rising star band called Holy Grail. The show would be opened by both Korotory and Bonded By Blood. Sadly I would miss Long Island’s own Korotory in full and arrive just as Bonded By Blood was doing their thing. Having limited background on them besides knowing that there was a “Thrash Metal” outfit that used an Exodus song as their name. They didn’t sound bad but I really was not getting to absorb their material as best as I would have liked. The opening bands generally only get about 25-30 minutes when they play this early so missing half, you might as well miss the whole thing. I would pick up my event documenting with Holy Grail who came up almost immediately after BBB had gotten their gear offstage.

Arch Enemy & Exodus @ Nokia Theatre Times Square (1/22/2010)

Venue: Nokia Theatre Times Square (New York, NY)
Opener: Exodus, Arsis, Mutiny Within
Date: 1/22/2010
Label: Century Media Records

It was great to find Arch Enemy doing a headlining tour again because the last time that we found them visiting us in NYC they were doing a “co-headlining” run called “The Black Tyranny Tour”. This excellent event paired them with Roadrunner Records’ own Machinehead and while they lined it out as co-headlining gigs, Arch had always seemed to be the direct support for Machinehead and I am not sure there were too many swapped shows. Of course, I don’t think many of the Metal legions actually minded about this back when those shows had happened because Machinehead was on the rise again and dishing out the tunes for those who enjoyed the incredible sounds on their album of the time “The Blackening”. Tonight’s gig would be an interesting one as it found Exodus hitting the stage as the bands direct support and give us the long awaited return of Arsis while also treating us to some relative newcomers to the scene with Mutiny Within.

Kreator & Exodus @ Nokia Theatre Times Square (4/8/2009)

If there was ever a show that was going to pack a punch then it was going to be this one as it found two legendary Thrashers in action on the same stage. Yep, Kreator was back in NYC after far too long, and they brought the one and only Exodus along for direct support. The event was complimented by Black Metal’s Belphegor, up and coming Thrash legends Warbringer and Epicurean and this would all take place at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square. Although a lengthy event and a lot to cover we were on point with camera and notepad in hand to bring all the action to your home. Scroll on.

While the promise of a killer Metal show normally does the trick for me no matter what is going on in life, I had to say that my day leading up this show found me a bit defeated. I had mentioned at the close of my Destruction review that one of the PiercingMetal camera lenses had rolled back out of the bag unnoticed and while I had hoped it would turn up at the venue the following morning, it would not. The premise of not having a crucial piece of gear and needing to shoot five bands at a big show was pretty much a suck factor but I would have to make do until I could replace it. Despite this, the show last night was a killer way to lead into the fun that was to be had this evening as Germany’s Kreator would take the stage and bring along Exodus, Belphegor, Warbringer and Epicurean as support. Set to happen at the Nokia Theatre Times Square, I had thought that last night’s Destruction show started way early but tonight would find me braving the Metal madness at 6pm based on there being five bands on the roster. As I arrived some of the security folks were telling people that we might not see Belphegor perform because the first band was already set to hit the stage and there was no sign of the Blackened Death Metal masters at all. Epicurean was up first of the five.

Exodus @ B.B. King Blues Club (2/4/2008)

Exodus were legends in the Bay Area Thrash movement and while many genres have come to exist since those early days, these guys still manage to deliver a crushing set of the purest stuff that the genre ever gave birth to. Tonight’s show at B.B. King Blues Club would find them joined by Arsis, Warbringer and Goatwhore and it was definitely a rousing one. We made sure to be on point for all the performers and if you want to see more just scroll past the logo below.

Historically speaking, Exodus is one of the founding fathers that’s often respectfully referred to when one opens the chronicles and looks back at the dawning of the Thrash Metal movement. The band was originally formed by guitarist Gary Holt, drummer Tom Hunting and guitarist Kirk Hammett in 1980, and while Hammett would go on to join Metallica, both Holt and Hunting and what seemed to be a rotation of players would continue on for the forces of Metal world wide . For those who are old enough to have experienced it firsthand the band holds a very special place in their hearts to this very day no matter how much of lifes daily trials and tribulations are put upon us. The Metal scene was quite profound during this genres formative years and its power has not ebbed at all it would seem. The younger fans only remember the bands formation from reading about it or watching videos on YouTube.com but have made sure to keep up by following their later years through purchasing albums and hitting the shows. Tonight at B.B. King Blues Club in New York we would find an incredible mix of a wide variety of musical talent and there wasn’t anyone in the room who would argue with you. The show found Exodus bringing along Goatwhore as direct support and also the super technical talents of Arsis and youthful exuberance of Warbringer. The Metal youth of Warbringer would come up first and here is how the night went down.
