Michael Schenker Fest To Tour North America!

The fans of the Mad Axeman Michael Schenker will be drooling onto their tablature pages once they learn about the latest tour plans by the legendary guitar slinger as he announces the arrival of “The Michael Schenker Fest” to the US Shores. Check out the poster, full press release and dates down below. I’ll add some editorial closing at the end. Here we go.

The Press Release:
Few rock guitarists have proven to be as influential and enduring as the great Michael Schenker. And March will be a busy month for Schenker, as he will be issuing his latest album on the 2nd, ‘Resurrection,’ as well as launching a North American tour in support of it – kicking off on the 6th at the Fillmore in Silver Springs, MD, and wrapping up on April 3rd at the Ritz in Tampa, FL.

And what makes this tour truly unique is that it is being billed as “Michael Schenker Fest,” and will be featuring three classic Michael Schenker Group vocalists (Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet, and Robin McAuley), plus the singer of Michael Schenker’s Temple of Rock (Doogie White). And in addition to Schenker supplying guitar, he will be joined by second guitarist/keyboardist Steve Mann, bassist Chris Glen, and drummer Ted McKenna. Meet and greet packages are also available for purchase via the website linked at the close.

July had been a very excellent month for concerts so far but today the buzz across the Metal Republic was all intensely focused on the wedding of Chelsea Clinton………oh wait, I’m mistaken since none of us gave a rats ass about that stuff and instead we were all preparing ourselves for the return of the one and only Michael Schenker Group. MSG had performed over at The Gramercy Theatre last year and this killer show found a revitalized Michael Schenker which was a great treat as the musician had been dealing with “issues” for a couple of years prior to it. Now back on top of his game he continues to tour with singer Gary Barden at the microphone. This tour would continue to showcase the talents of guitarist/keyboardist Wayne Findlay as well and bring along the surprise new bass work of Elliot Dean and legendary drummer Carmine Appice. The tour also gave us two opening bands with Sister Sin and Lynch Mob. Here is how the hot night in NYC went down for those who were foolish enough to pass it by.

For the scores of Michael Schenker Group fans in the USA it seems as though their prayers have been answered as after absence of about five years, the influential axe slinger would again be doing some shows in the region. The last time that I caught him performing was back in 2004 at Mulcahy’s in Long Island, and from there is seemed as though every return engagement would be fraught with mystery, question about whether or not it would take place and eventual cancellation. It became frustrating for the fans of the guitarist who had always stood by him over the years and wondered if the personal demons that seemed to be plaguing him and the tours would be something that they could take for much longer. Fortunately for everyone involved, the musician would get himself together once again and be able to deliver a solid album with “In The Midst Of Beauty”. It was a CD that would reunite him with vocalist Gary Barden, who was the first singer for the Michael Schenker Group, and the guy who had sung on such classic albums as “Michael Schenker Group”, “M.S.G.” and the live effort “One Night At Budokan”. Based on this reunion we had heard reports of the material being focused on the pairs earliest years together and there was not a Metal fan in the club tonight who had any arguments about it. The show would be at the Blender Theater or the Gramercy Theatre, whatever they are officially calling it these days and it would be a sold out show. That’s good because it meant that about 650 fans were in the venue and that is one hell of a welcome back if you asked me. Here is how the night went down for those who might have missed out.
