Win To See Finntroll In NYC On 11/5/2013

The Details: I still remember the Folk Metal thrashing that the fans got when Finntroll first came to the states as the opening act for the Sodom tour back in 2006 and without trying to sound disrespectful, they were an incredibly hard act to follow and the Germans had their hands full. The visit showed the band that returning to these parts was good hunting in the name of Metal and since that fateful night they have released four more albums and knocked our socks off with each and every visit. Its been a couple of years but now the band is returning to the new Stage 48 club and bringing along the mighty Blackguard and Metsatoll from Estonia for good measure. You know you don’t want to miss out on this one. The show itself excites me, and even more so now that the marketing team at this beautiful space have offered a couple of tickets to my ardent supporters. Read below on how to participate in this one.

Celebrate Finnish Independence Day 2011 With Their Metal Bands

And now for something completely different 🙂

It’s without question that Finland has been delivering some seriously amazing Metal bands to the scene for the last few years and while there are numerous favorites among the fans, I have to cite that Nightwish was my first foray into their provisions.  I first heard of the band in 1999 and was not even doing my Metal Scribe thing yet but they remain one of my own personal top picks to this day.   From this point I began to look into some of their other groups such as Sonata Arctica, Finntroll and so on.  All of these wondrous sounds would come in handy to my mental musical palate once I began to write about it.  Since becoming the Master and Commander of the PiercingMetal universe I have attended a score of concerts that the Finns have brought to our shores and based on the coverage on the site have been fortunate to meet a lot of wonderful musicians from this faraway land.

Today this bountiful provider of Metal celebrates their 94th Independence Day and I just wanted to send them all a hearty “Happy Independence Day” and raise my glass with a very loud “Kippis”.   To celebrate the occasion I copied the tag for “Finnish Metal” which was used on every concert piece that features one of their bands.  Clicking the Finnish flag below will launch that search and you can enjoy the findings.  My hope is that most of you know all the bands already but if you do not, then it is high time to do a little research and eventual purchasing.  I am pretty sure you will like what you hear.   The core website can be searched for those bands via the main page.

One day I will get myself over there and absorb a little more of their culture.  Having seen some of my friends photos and knowing there is even more cool music makes me pretty firm in this idea.  When I do that you can be rest assured that there will be both Metal and Personal blogs written up about the journey.  Of course I will need to learn a little Finnish but luckily I have Sammy The Ambassador to help me along in that regard. Stay tuned.

Finntroll @ Gramercy Theatre (4/8/2010)

Artist: Finntroll
Venue: Gramercy Theatre (New York, NY)
Opener: Moonsorrow, Swallow The Sun, Operatika
Date: 4/8/2010
Label: Century Media Records

Now that April was officially off and running, one had to agree that it was doing its best to keep in the pace that was kicked off by March Metal Madness. We began our own Metal adventures earlier this week with Finnish powerhouse Sonata Arctica who stopped by NYC with both Mutiny Within and Powerglove in tow and now it was time for the aptly labeled “Finnish Metal Tour”. This show would bring us Finntroll, Moonsorrow, Swallow The Sun and Operatika and while I know that you scratch your head at the mention of the New Jersey Power Metallers, there is a reason for their appearance on this area’s show. Apparently the band Survivor’s Zero had dropped off the tour before it ever hit the USA and as result an area band would fill in the gap that they left. For me this was a pleasant surprise because they also have some good stuff. Here is how the night went down should you have missed out for any reason.

Finntroll @ B.B. King Blues Club (8/24/2008)

Artist: Finntroll
Venue: B.B. King Blues Club (New York, NY)
Opener: Warbringer & Lethal Stryke
Date: 8/24/2008
Label: Century Media Records

It was time once again for a Troll invasion in NYC and like the last two visits we would find the band decimating the stage at B.B. King Blues Club and Grill. The last time around we found the guys appearing with only one local opener as their support and with the band still on the climb in this region, it clearly worked against them. Tonight would be one of the gigs which found the mighty Trolls touring with Warbringer, a Century Media Records label mate who do Metal of a slightly different kind from those Pagan Folksters. Joining them would be a band from the immediate area, a group of local kids who played Thrash and went by the name of Lethal Strike.
