H.I.M.’s North American “Tears On Tour” Is Cancelled

Poster - HIM - Tears On Tour - 2013

Early in the day on Saturday I started seeing some tweets that the Friday evening performance by the Finnish Rockers HIM had been cancelled just before the band was going to take the stage based on the groups singer, the enigmatic Ville Vallo, having suffered a severe asthma attack and needing to be hospitalized. At the time there was no official word from their tour press so all hoped that this was merely a scare and the run of dates would get picked up for the Saturday appearance. From here I observed cancellations being listed on Ticketmaster while the bands Unofficial Street Team Twitter informed all that the full run of six dates had been cancelled. While this news started making the rounds on numerous other websites, the released details about what had happened have only just a moment ago come to light from their official press outlet. Now I could do my own post on this as I prefer to wait than speculate on anything and this is because as a writer I have been following and reporting on the band HIM since before there was even a PiercingMetal to begin with and you can see our views on them HERE. This will lead you to all coverage done about the band on the website.

Official Statement:
HIM’s North American tour (which was due to kick off in Los Angeles on May 3rd at the House Of Blues) has been cancelled due to unforeseen medical circumstances. HIM’s lead vocalist Ville Valo has been diagnosed with severe asthma with presumptive pneumonia. Tickets for all dates will be refunded at the point of purchase. HIM will be back later this summer as part of the Rock Allegiance tour.

Genre: Gothic Rock
Rating:

We’re about a month away from the release of the eighth studio album by Finland’s HIM which is being released on Razor and Tie who they’ve returned to after a brief stint on The End Records. This is an exciting time for the bands fanbase since this is the first new music that we’ve gotten from them since the 2010 release “Screamworks: Love In Theory and Practice”. Sure, they delivered a comprehensive collection with “XX: Two Decades Of Love Metal” but there was only one new song on that and now it is again time to look forward into the band’s future. The debut single from the forthcoming is called “Into The Night”, let’s discuss.

“XX – Two Decades Of Love Metal” by HIM

Artist: HIM
Title: “XX – Two Decades Of Love Metal”
Label: The End Records
Release Date: 10/26/2012
Genre: Gothic Metal/Hard Rock
Rating: 4.5/5

It’s sure been a rollercoaster of music life for the last few years for the guys in HIM because after their “Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice” album, they parted ways with their longtime US label and pretty much seemed to disappear from peoples sights but never for a second in their fans musical hearts. I remember reading forum posts suggesting that HIM should at long last start their own label and while years ago that might have been grand, I felt the too rapidly shifting geography of the music industry would not have had room for this. That said I was very happy to find a new greatest hits compilation being released by The End Records, a label that I have enjoyed the output on for several years. This is the second such release in the bands discography and was different enough to be enjoyed for its content. Let’s examine it shall we.

The brand-new HIM album is available as you read this if you live in Europe while the rest of us here in the USA will have to wait until next week to indulge in its awesomeness. It comes care of the bands now new The End Records and while all of the songs have been heard on other releases, the lead off track and first single is a brand-new number as delivered by HIM. HIM @ The Fillmore at Irving Plaza (5/7/2010)

Logo - HIM

Artist: HIM
Venue: The Fillmore NY (New York, NY)
Opener: We Are The Fallen, Dommin, Drive A
Date: 5/7/20100
Label: Sire Records

In terms of the shows that had been lined up so far for the month, I had to admit that May was certainly trying to deliver a healthy blend of acts for a wide genre demographic of fans. Our own musical month of May began with a bombastic show by Overkill only a week ago and I do not use the term loosely. You see not only was the gig one for the record books, but just outside the venue that night was a failed attempt at terrorist activity upon our fair city and thank the powers that be for watchful eyes and the NYPD. The bomb malfunctioned and the idiot terrorist was quickly apprehended but it was not fun knowing that all of this was going on just above our heads and could have been far, far worse. That being said I was really looking forward to the HIM show as I have made sure to be on point every time he comes to the Big Apple. I did admit a little surprise with his selection of The Fillmore NY as a venue as opposed to the Nokia Theatre this time around but it is a weird time for the music business and every performer is changing up the way they deliver shows to the people. Ville and the boys were celebrating the semi-recent release of “Screamworks: Love In Theory and Practice” which is the bands seventh album and one that is being met with considerable approval. The tour put together for this go round would be an interesting one as it would find We Are The Fallen as direct support and Dommin leading up to them. Kicking the whole night off would be a youthful Punk band called Drive A. Here is how the show we attended went down in case you somehow missed it.
