Ace Frehley @ Playstation Theater (9/23/2016)

Artist: Ace Frehley
Venue: Playstation Theater (New York, NY)
Opener: Simo
Date: 9/23/2016
Label: eOne Entertainment

It was awesome to find the great Ace Frehley performing tonight at the Playstation Theater because while this would be the musicians third gig in the immediate vicinity in the space of about six months, I didn’t get to the shows that took place at the nearby B.B. King Blues Club. Yeah, I was really heartsick about it but that is life in NYC. Sometimes there are a hundred things happing on a single night and sometimes there is nothing. For those shows it was the first one but that was then and this is now and I was ready to be one of the assembled Rock Soldiers with so many music loving friends. Opening the show would a band called Simo but I wouldn’t be able to see them since I was convening with a group of fellow KISS fans down at a favorite concert watering hole called Smith’s. I also had someone’s ticket and needed to make sure they got it and didn’t miss a moment of the original Spaceman.

Zakk Wylde Announces North American “Book Of Shadows II” Tour Dates

If you’re a fan of monster guitar slinging then you are very likely already a fan of the Berzerker himself, Mr. Zakk Wylde. About a month ago Zakk released his second solo album entitled “Book Of Shadows II” and earlier yesterday he unveiled the touring plans for this album. Take a look at the poster, the press copy and the battery of dates on the run and then I’ll return with some added thoughts.

Tour - Zakk Wylde - Book Of Shadows 2016

The Press Release:
Guitar icon ZAKK WYLDE today has announced new U.S. and Canadian tour dates in continued support of his new LP Book Of Shadows II. Wylde will hit over 40 cities spread out across the U.S. and Canada this summer including a performance at Heavy MTL Festival in Montreal on August 7th, a first for him as a solo artist. Tickets will go on sale this Thursday, May 12th. Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown and Jared James Nichols will serve as support.

Wylde, as always, has been on the road nonstop. He wrapped up a buzzworthy stint on Steve Vai’s GENERATION AXE TOUR just yesterday in Red Bank, NJ and prior to that served as a marquee artist on THE HENDRIX EXPERIENCE TOUR with the likes of Billy Cox and Buddy Guy. This is the first time Zakk has toured as a headliner in the U.S. and Canada since last year’s Unblackened tour.

Ace Frehley & Paul Stanley Reunited For “Fire and Water” Video

There’s nothing like a little Ace Frehley to start your Wednesday off right and especially when its the first video from his latest album on E1 Entertainment, “Origins” V.1. Let’s up the ante on this and share that the clip also features his former KISS band mate Paul Stanley as they deliver a cover of the song “Fire and Water” which was originally done by Free.

About The Video: 2014 Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame member ACE FREHLEY today has debuted a brand new music video for his cover of Free’s 1970 hit “Fire and Water” featuring none other than KISS frontman PAUL STANLEY. The video is being premiered exclusively through VEVO. “It was great working with Paul again and all the years we’ve spent apart doing other projects seemed to vanish once we hit the stage!,” says Frehley. The video notches itself into rock and roll history as the first time both Frehley and Stanley appear in a music video since KISS’ music video for “Psycho Circus” released in 1998. It’s also the first time in 14 years that the two shared a stage since KISS’ appearance at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Finally, it’s the first time Frehley has released a music video since 1989, which was Frehley’s cover of “Do Ya” released by both The Move and ELO.

“Emerald” (Single) by Ace Frehley

Artist: Ace Frehley
Title: “Emerald”
Label: e1 Entertainment
Release Date: 4/1/2016
Genre: Hard Rock
Rating: 4/5

A little over a month ago I tossed out some opinion on the first single from Ace Frehley’s upcoming album “Origins V. 1” which you can check out HERE. Thinking back on it I had to say that I enjoyed his take on the Cream classic so it was interesting to find the next legendary band to get some homage on this soon to be released CD being Thin Lizzy. Now before going any further I will be honest and say that I was only ever the most casual of fans of the legendary Irish Rockers and I’m pretty much guilty of only knowing the absolute classics from their repertoire. That being said I did know “Emerald” which is the tune that the Space Ace decided to include on this new album.

“White Room” (Single) by Ace Frehley

Artist: Ace Frehley
Title: “White Room” (Single)
Label: eOne Entertainment
Release Date: 2/11/2016
Genre: Hard Rock
Rating: 4.5

Ace Frehley is back and he told you so my friends and this time around he is doing so with the recently released cover of the Cream classic “White Room” which is now available as a digital single. It’s the first track to be dished out by the Space Ace from his upcoming album “Origins V1” which based on its title will apparently be a covers album but one that speaks to the musicians own beginnings. I like the idea of that since Ace was into some really great music according to his interviews so this should be a fun listen. Now I admit that I walked into this track with a little hesitation because it’s a classic among classics from a very legendary band and Ace would really have to pull out the stops to impress me even the slightest. Let’s remember that the Cream were one of the original supergroups and gave us Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker so covering their work is not too easily done or even accepted. Fortunately, Ace and company did a bang up job on the tune.
