Soilwork’s Drummer Dirk Verbeuren Joins Megadeth

Well this was some interesting and unexpected information to find out happening but I guess in the end it makes the most sense. As you well know, Chris Adler was doing live drums for Megadeth after recording their most recent album “Dystopia”. When Chris had to return to Lamb Of God activity, the role was temporarily filled by Soilwork’s Dirk Verbeuren who is a monster drummer. Well, Dirk received a call from Dave Mustaine and the outcome is below in the press release. Check it out.

DIRK VERBEUREN NAMED AS FULL-TIME DRUMMER FOR MEGADETH – MEGADETH’S DYSTOPIA WORLD TOUR ROLLS ON WITH UPCOMING DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY

LOS ANGELES, CA – July 14, 2016 – MEGADETH are happy to announce the addition of Dirk Verbeuren as the band’s new drummer. Verbeuren, formerly of Swedish metal band Soilwork, has been performing with the band for months, his first show was Rock on The Range festival in May, to a crowd of 40,000 concertgoers.

Most recently, Lamb Of God drummer Chris Adler had performed all the drums on the band’s latest album, Dystopia, and had toured with MEGADETH when not otherwise busy with his band.

Said bandleader Dave Mustaine: “Chris Adler’s contributions are sure to be felt for years to come. Megadeth has been revitalized by Chris’ playing, as well as his excellent suggestion of Dirk Verbeuren to drum with us. Tremendous thanks to Chris, and a big welcome to Dirk.”

New drummer Verbeuren had this to say: “Dave, David and Kiko, I’m thankful for your warm welcome and thrilled at the opportunity to perform and create badass music with you guys. Chris Adler, thank you for introducing me to Megadeth – and for your encouragement and support.”

Soilwork @ Gramercy Theatre (7/16/2010)

Artist: Soilwork
Venue: Gramercy Theatre (New York, NY)
Opener: Death Angel, Augury, Mutiny Within, Swashbuckle
Date: 7/16/2010
Label: Nuclear Blast Records

It’s been a little over a year since we last saw Soilwork headlining the stages of the venues in NYC and for some that was a good thing because there was a time when the band was performing too often and forced to play a lot of the same material. Believe me, no one wants to get bored when they see the name Soilwork on the marquee so the fifteen month breather was going to make this something many of the Metal Republics fans were looking forward to. The show was going to be exciting for a number of different reasons and the first was that it was an 80% Nuclear Blast Records artist roster and found Death Angel as direct support while both Augury and Swashbuckle performed earlier sets. It was rounded out by Roadrunner Records newcomers Mutiny Within. With so much Metal to absorb I arrived super early on this hot summer night to be able to witness the onslaught in full. Here is how the “Panic Over North America” went for those who did not manage to secure a ticket.

“Sworn To A Great Divide” (Limited Edition) by Soilwork

Artist: Soilwork
Title: “Sworn To A Great Divide” (Limited Edition)
Label: Nuclear Blast Records
Release Date: 10/23/2007
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Rating: 4/5

When a band like Soilwork has a dramatic change such as the departure of a songwriter like Peter Wichers (who was also their lead guitarist) there are bound to be comments about the band’s losing direction, or that it will never be the same again and fortunately for us all some of these comments are the case. Now before you take this as a negative let me remind you of the old saying where “the only constant is change” as this has ALWAYS applied very well to a band like Soilwork. You might also recall that back in the day the band was a purveyor of blazing technical Death Metal and are now more along the lines of Death Metal meets Melodic Metal core and its these changes and advancements in sound that finds the group pressing the charge forward into the future. It’s things like this that make a band like Soilwork so appealing in the first place because as far as blazing tech-Death, they have been there and done that and now must explore new ground and make new fans. The bands previous release “Stabbing The Drama” had a considerable amount of melodic influence on it and became a fast favorite of Metal listeners everywhere so I am thinking that the band will again find a winner with “Sworn To A Great Divide” since its stacked with feels we love from the band. The minute it begins we find the band up to their old tricks and offering up a few new ones as Speed makes good on the dueling vocals of raspy growls and superb melodic clean ones. The chorus of the opening, album-titled track has a strong power that the audience will dig into during the live set.

Opener: Mnemic, Threat Signal, Darkest Hour
Date: 11/5/2006
Label: Nuclear Blast Records

There seems to be no stop in the touring when it comes to the bands I was planning to see this evening and this is never a bad thing when you consider that we are talking about Mnemic and the mighty Soilwork from Sweden. The groups made some incredible touring memories for the Metal fans of New York over the past year as not only did they perform a killer headlining set with Dark Tranquillity and Hypocrisy but also they returned later in the year to support Industrial Metal veterans Fear Factory. Joining them on tour would be Darkest Hour and Threat Signal. The club would be shaking to its foundation with all this Metal to enjoy that’s for sure. Here are some of my thoughts on to the way everything transpired.
