The 2016 Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees Are…
Presenting the 2016 Class for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions. Are you happy with the choices of Deep Purple? Of Cheap Trick? Of Chicago? Of Steve Miller? Of NWA?
PiercingMetal Thoughts: What a rundown of names for this years class huh. At long last we are getting the mighty Deep Purple in the Rock Hall along with Cheap Trick and in my humble opinion these two have rocked my personal world for more years than I care to disclose. Outside of a handful of tunes I never really followed both Chicago or Steve Miller but their sounds were staples in my Classic Rock radio listening over the years and then we have NWA, the lone Rap group who won out over Janet Jackson who was also up for nomination. Now I’ve said this a number of times already before and that is how I really give little credibility to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as anything important in my own love of music. Yeah I am happy that KISS finally made it in there and joined the likes of Van Halen, Sabbath, Rush and many other favorites but outside of that I give a whopping “0” f**ks about it as something I should be impressed by or look to for sage Rock importance. I am still against any and all Rap acts from being included in this and its a constant source of debate with a couple of my friends who I think that the opposing view to rile me more than anything else and feel this place should just rebrand to the “Music Hall Of Fame” once and for all so you can keep putting the rappers in ahead of the likes of Yes, or the eventually hope for Judas Priest and Iron Maiden (not that I think those will happen in my lifetime).
As always your opinions on this are of interest to me so let’s get those comments brewing. I look forward to what you have to say about it.

The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame 2013 Nominees Are….
Yep. It’s that time of the year again when the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame informs the world of their nominees for the honor to be in their esteemed institution. If you caught my not too subtle sarcasm, you can stop laughing now please so we can continue along in this post.
I decided to bring this up once again because so many of the big wigs in music media like to complain about it publicly so why not follow suit and let our own site readers toss in their views into the mix as a result of my bringing it up. Yeah the Rock Hall is not all that Metal and I think that I will have grand children by the time we see groups like Judas Priest, Slayer and Iron Maiden being added but I digress. Let’s go over the criteria for inclusion once more for those who might not yet be aware:

Turn Off The Hammond Organ; Legendary Keyboardist Jon Lord Has Died (7/16/2012)
The music world is humbly paused today as the sad news about the passing of the legendary Jon Lord started being circulated around the Internet. It’s without question that his name is synonymous with the term “Classic Rock” and thanks to the musical contributions that he made with his band mates in Deep Purple during their earliest years, had offered up as much inspiration as the likes of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Isn’t it amazing that such a man was not yet inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame while he was still able to enjoy the “honor”. Mr. Lord was born Jonathan “Jon” Douglas Lord back in 1941 and in addition to numerous releases with Purple also worked with Whitesnake and was a respected composer of classical material. Even though Lord had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he was still working on music but that would all end today when at aged 71 he would leave us.
Writing this brief memorial notation finds me recalling only ever seeing Deep Purple in concert once and this was during their “Perfect Strangers” tour. Despite this, I still have a considerable amount of Deep Purple in my music library collection and will be spinning quite a few of their most amazing tracks in Lord’s honor. There are keyboardists and there are keyboardists, but there was only one Jon Lord. He was the prime reason that so many Rock fans held the sound of the Hammond organ so valuable. Sit back and think on their music for a moment and you can almost hear it playing in your head at maximum volume. I know that I can that is for sure. Thank you Jon for giving us that unique sound that you did, you are forever in our musical hearts and memory. May you Rest in Peace.

PiercingMetal’s own Skeleton Pete had already coined the phrase “Purple Summer” when it’s came to Eagle Rock Entertainment’s issue of a wide selection of releases from the legendary Hard Rock band and it’s absolutely correct as they have been re-issuing classic material with bonus live and demo tracks as well as unearthing vintage documentary pieces such as this one on a quality medium with additions that make the buyer say “Wow this is awesome”. One such release is the recent “Phoenix Rising” which is a documentary film for the most part but also includes some archival concert footage that has never been fully issued to fans. “Phoenix Rising” deals with the Mark III and Mark IV era of the band and showcases that roster which featured David Coverdale, Glen Hughes and Tommy Bolin; Ritchie Blackmore had left the lineup and surprised many. Since I can hardly expand on the views that Pete gave us about this era of the band, I am linking to his review on the site as he covered the DVD/CD combo version of the release. I’ll toss in my thoughts on the subtle and not too subtle differences between this edition and the Blu-ray version that is also in my hands. Read on.
