Speaking to Rolling Stone Magazine, Slipknot’s creative visionary Shawn “Clown” Crahan defined Knotfest as “a dark carnival experience. It’s not just the shows, but the environment created around it. It’s all about having fun. A day dedicated to our mentality, our ideas, to the people we want to be with. I’m talking about smells, sights, hearing, your body, everything will be overloaded with stimulation.”

Twenty one years ago, nine inspired musicians from Des Moines, Iowa, shattered the scope of what was possible in rock music. From the moment Slipknot emerged in 1999 with their self-titled debut, it was clear they were like nothing the world had seen before. Where a similarly creative act may have burned out or lost their relevance chasing mainstream acceptance, Slipknot has only proven that an enduring commitment to constant evolution, their craft, and their fans can allow a rock band to not only continue – but flourish and push the envelope on what defines heavy metal and rock music in general. With We are Not Your Kind, Slipknot’s first new album in five years, the band deliver when they are needed most. Meanwhile, Slipknot’s annual Knotfest festival has evolved into the biggest hard rock and metal festival in the world, expanding to four continents. Over 550,000 fans have attended these massive festivals, which are as cultural as they are music-based, mixing heavy rock with hip hop, world music, visual art, experiential installations, and much more. Recorded music and live performances aside, Slipknot has always permeated mainstream culture in ways that defy expectations. Recently, Slipknot partnered with Amazon Studios’ advertising campaign for their smash hit series, “The Boys”, and have launched Slipknot No. 9 Whiskey in a partnership with Cedar Ridge Distillery (American Distilling Institute’s “2017 Distiller of the Year”)

Slipknot’s “Knotfest” @ Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater (8/28/2019)

slipknot logo

Artist: Slipknot
Venue: Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater (Wantaugh, NY)
Opener: Behemoth, Gojira and Volbeat
Date: 8/28/2019
Label: Roadrunner Records

The mega-concert event known as “The Knotfest Roadshow” was rumbling through cities of these United States and laying waste to anything that stood in its way. One could not expect anything less from a touring package that brought together bands like Behemoth, Gojira and Volbeat who lead off the day before a crushing/thrilling/energetic set by the one and only Slipknot. The weather report was on the grim side which made the long haul out to Wantaugh in Long Island a bit of a bother as the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater venue is an outdoor space but once sufficiently prepped and packed for the adventure I girded myself properly for a sure to be fun time. The show started early, and I mean 5:30 early which was the slot held by Behemoth and there was no way that I was missing them so here is how their set and the rest of the event took place.

Behemoth: Now according to my concert playbook, I have caught Behemoth a few times over the last couple of years and I didn’t mind this at all since I absolutely love what they do on the stage. It was going to be interesting to see the Metal Blade artist in the daylight this afternoon and with their hitting the stage at this early a time if you were stuck in that Long Island traffic you were not going to catch them at all since they were only going to give us about a thirty minute set. After a brief audio playback, the incendiary might that is Behemoth were on the stage and sporting the masks one would see during a full headlining set. Though this was to be a brief performance the band was on fire and quite literally as jets of flame shot from the rear of stage while singer Nergal also brought some out and offered up some homage to the Dark Gods at one point. To say that they crushed would be an understatement and since this was really early the venue was not yet full so far too many people missed a really overpowering set. I cannot wait to catch this band when they headline or co-headline with another superpower in the future. Gojira was coming up next.

Behold: Slipknot’s “Day of The Gusano” Documentary Trailer

slipknot logo

It’s without question that the band Slipknot is one of the most exciting Heavy Metal experiences that a fan of the genre can have and while seeing them in concert is something that an audience member will not soon forget; when the band plays places like far away Mexico, we just all cannot join them at the show. This new trailer showcases the bands upcoming live album and video, “Day Of The Gusano”. Let’s take a look.

About The Film: “Day of the Gusano: Live in Mexico” is the second live album from American heavy metal band Slipknot. The album features the first concert in Mexico from the ensemble, which took place in 2015. (c/o Wiki)

PiercingMetal Thoughts: So the word on the street is that the film will be show in select movie theatres for one night only in the coming months but it doesn’t seem to be one of the Fathom Events that you’ve found me discussing here on the website over the recent years. That will prevent me from offering up some free tickets unless I figure out who is handling this since I love giving things away especially if it costs other people money LOL. The finer details are not on hand because I was working off of a non-existant press release about this since I didn’t manage to receive one but that was not stopping my helping sound the alarm for our readers about a band like Slipknot. Now while I don’t generally rush to these one night only events based on such a healthy to do list, I might just check this out when it happens because at worst I meet some new Metal heads and convince them to follow our soapboxing and social networks. Maybe a pitch or invite will come soon and I shall decide then. Slipknot is one of the most important Metal bands that is currently active and they are a must see in concert group. I look forward to owning the live CD and Blu-ray of this when they become available. What do you think of this exciting live concert trailer and will you be interested in seeing this during the limited theatrical run? Chime in down below.
