Artist: Ace Frehley Title: “Emerald” Label: e1 Entertainment Release Date: 4/1/2016 Genre: Hard Rock Rating: 4/5
A little over a month ago I tossed out some opinion on the first single from Ace Frehley’s upcoming album “Origins V. 1” which you can check out HERE. Thinking back on it I had to say that I enjoyed his take on the Cream classic so it was interesting to find the next legendary band to get some homage on this soon to be released CD being Thin Lizzy. Now before going any further I will be honest and say that I was only ever the most casual of fans of the legendary Irish Rockers and I’m pretty much guilty of only knowing the absolute classics from their repertoire. That being said I did know “Emerald” which is the tune that the Space Ace decided to include on this new album. Continue reading “Emerald” (Single) by Ace Frehley→
Artist: Ace Frehley Title: “White Room” (Single) Label: eOne Entertainment Release Date: 2/11/2016 Genre: Hard Rock Rating: 4.5
Ace Frehley is back and he told you so my friends and this time around he is doing so with the recently released cover of the Cream classic “White Room” which is now available as a digital single. It’s the first track to be dished out by the Space Ace from his upcoming album “Origins V1” which based on its title will apparently be a covers album but one that speaks to the musicians own beginnings. I like the idea of that since Ace was into some really great music according to his interviews so this should be a fun listen. Now I admit that I walked into this track with a little hesitation because it’s a classic among classics from a very legendary band and Ace would really have to pull out the stops to impress me even the slightest. Let’s remember that the Cream were one of the original supergroups and gave us Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker so covering their work is not too easily done or even accepted. Fortunately, Ace and company did a bang up job on the tune. Continue reading “White Room” (Single) by Ace Frehley→
Artist: Dommin Title: “Cola” (Single) Label: Independent Artist Release Date: 11/4/2015 Genre: Gothic Rock Rating: 3.5/5
A few months ago I mentioned that Dommin had done a cover of Duran Duran’s “Save A Prayer” as a part of their Pledgemusic initiative. If you missed that discussion, just click HERE to get a refresher course and then come back to us so we can continue along. Alright, so the second cover being offered up by the guys is a Lana Del Ray track called “Cola” and I must admit that I have only ever heard this singers name in the recent past more than any of her music. With that being the case I listened to her version first to have some actual background. The tune hails from her “Born To Die” album if you were curious. Continue reading “Cola” (Single) by Dommin→
Artist: Dommin Title: “Save A Prayer” (Single) Label: Independent Artist Release Date: Genre: Melancholy Rock Rating: 4/5
A few days ago the band Dommin released the first in a group of covers that they were offering up as a part of their Pledgemusic campaign. This first cover is a Domminized rendition of Duran Duran’s “Save A Prayer” and I just wanted to give my quick opinion on it to those who share an appreciation of the band with me. I greatly enjoyed their brand of Melancholy since first hearing the “Love Is Gone” album that was released by Roadrunner Records way back in 2010. Not truly that long ago but with how fast our Social Network driven society moves it might as well be an eternity ago. For those who know the original Duran Duran tune, and hold it to some high regard, I can honestly tell you that Kris, Konstantine, Billy and Cameron keep it right on point with the original groove. It’s a sad song and probably one of the only ballads that I know from Duran Duran but I guess we couldn’t expect for Dommin to do anything with Rio or Hungry Like The Wolf and keep his signature style. I liked it and I think if you were ever a fan of these guys that you will too. Continue reading “Save A Prayer For Me” (Single) by Dommin→
Artist: Kobra and The Lotus Title: “Words Of The Prophets” Label: Titan Music Release Date: 8/28/2015 Genre: Heavy Metal Rating: 4/5
To follow up their smoking hot “High Priestess” album and tour supporting the “Hottest Band In The World” KISS, Kobra and The Lotus have decided to treat their fans to an EP that’s loaded with the bands that they grew up with and musicians and who all hail from their native Canada. I’ve said in the past that I am pretty much over the “cover album” idea but when one is done that shows itself as being different and breaks out of the same old same old mold that so many others have locked into I am all for it. As a scribe who really enjoys what KATL do on album and stage I was glad to find this being the case with their bunch of covers. The five song EP gives us a track apiece from Triumph, April Wine, Alannah Myles, BTO and Rush – Let’s go over the numbers that they chose to do.
