Readers of this website know full well about just how much we enjoy attending the massive NY Comic Con that is held each October over at the Javits Center. I’ve attended since 2010 and have made it a point to go for all four days (well, once it became four days) and newer readers to the site can verify this statement HERE for our historical comprehensive coverages. Each year NYCC gets bigger and bigger and with that popularity the level of people scalping tickets for the event for ridiculous prices has grown and now the folks at ReedPOP are aiming to squash this practice as best as possible with a new “Fan Verification” process. The full and massive press release that I received a short time ago can be read below the graphic. Get a cup of coffee or your preferred beverage and get comfortable because this one is a doozy with a lot to absorb.

Insert Sad Emoticon Here; There Will Be No Special Edition: NYC for 2016

The timing of this article is a little late but I had the 2016 International Toy Fair for a few days and it really locked out my time to get some stuff out to you but yeah you are reading this correctly, there will be NO Special Edition: NYC for this 2016 year and that’s a shame because it was a lot of fun. It was also under the command of ReedPOP who are the folks that give us the NY Comic Con every year and have been doing so for ten years straight now. It was reported that the 2015 convention attendance numbers had beaten those that were found at the West Coast event Comic-Con International: San Diego and that my friend is pretty bad ass. Recently GSVP of ReedPOP Lance Fensterman was interviewed by Comic Book dotcom and I’ve quoted some of that for you below.

Here is an excerpt from the interview by ComicBook.com;

“The problem is, there’s not necessarily a place to expand the convention further. The Javits Center in New York got a boost from the addition of a new subway station across the street from it, but it needs more square footage in order to expand. That’s become a central issue for Lance Fensterman, Global Senior Vice President of ReedPOP. The goal is to expand into more of New York City, with the square footage to spare. I really want to get New York Comic-Con all over the city. We’ve been chipping away at that, with some success,” Fensterman told ComicBook.com in an interview. ” Being in Hammerstein Ballroom and programming content there, great. Getting some of the NYC Super Week events out there,” he said. That’s the goal going forward then. ” We really want to take a big step forward in kind of growing outside of the Javits Center, because that’s the only place we can grow. But really taking that event much more city-wide is a big goal.”

Attention all Comic Book Fans! There is a new convention in town and it is happening this weekend! Yes, you have read this correctly as tomorrow and Sunday (June 14th and 15th respectively) is the debut of a convention known as “Special Edition: NYC” and its under the guiding eye of the fine folks at Reed Pop who have been handling the massive New York Comic Con for many years. Check out this cool logo below 🙂

To give you a better idea of the overall premise, I cribbed this paragraph from their own website as it will give you a proper example of what this whole weekend will be about…

PiercingMetal Thoughts: As our readers who have been following the adventures a little longer than some others will know, I love me a good convention and have laid down plenty of coverage on things like New York Comic Con, Toy Fair, Book Expo and some additional things that fall on my other site nowadays. With that being the case I welcome this new event to the mix with open arms and since I have been approved for the proper press credentials, I shall be able to report on this as professionally as possible. It sure sounds interesting to me so I am planning on attending the pair of days and taking a whole lot of photos since you folks really like that stuff.
