Marvel’s “True Believers” Issues Celebrate Jack Kirby’s 100th In August

Hey there True Believers (I’m sorry but it was too hard to avoid beginning like that for this particular comic book topic) and we are here once more with another exciting edition of first-issue offerings from the Marvel Comics side of the fence. If you’ve read any of our monthly solicitations posts then you have most probably already seen our special focuses on the TRUE BELIEVERS line and for the newbie, these are the $1 comics that reprint classic stories and highlight special appearances of certain characters. If you’d like to see the previous posts of this nature just click HERE to launch the rundown of the posts that went online over the years. I don’t think that you will easily find some of the older ones all that easily considering the economical price, but some of you are true hunters and capable of anything when it comes to comic book collecting. Good luck to you if you are among this group. This next bunch of one-dollar special issues celebrates the 100th birthday of the absolutely legendary Jack “King” Kirby. Kirby was instrumental in the original success of Marvel Comics as the co-creator of some of the most famouse characters in comic book history (Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, The X-Men and Captain America among them). It’s exciting to find twelve editions to add to your collection and here is the cover art, new title and what it is reprinting. Every issue is “all-ages” suitable and spans 32 pages.

Marvel Primer Pages add All-New Content to “MARVEL LEGACY”

In addition to all of the monthly Comic Book Solicitations posts we do here at PiercingMetal we like to also focus on some of the interesting news about things that are happening in our favorite titles. Take a look at the scoop about these Primer Pages that will be appearing in some issues of the Marvel Legacy titles. I’ve culled together the full press details and the provided images are at the bottom of the post for your consumption.

The Press Release:
Marvel Legacy is changing the way you read comics – and the future of the Marvel Universe. This fall, Marvel is proud to present MARVEL PRIMER PAGES!, three all-new pages of comic content written by Robbie Thompson (Silk, Doctor Strange and the Sorcerer Supreme) with a majority of art from acclaimed superstar Mark Bagley (The Amazing Spider-Man, All New X-Men, Ultimate Spider-Man). These stories will draw all readers into the Marvel Universe like never before. And at no extra cost to the reader, what better way to change the way readers jump into a series!

Featured in select Marvel Legacy issues, each story provides easy access into the world of each title character, as well as easy access into the Legacy stories. Designed to give brand new readers a hook into the series, MARVEL PRIMER PAGES will offer all fans a simple jumping on point for almost all of Marvel’s heroic and iconic characters.

“When I first approached Robbie and Mark to do these Primer stories, I gave them only one edict: to remind all readers both who these characters are and what they’re about in three all new pages,” said Marvel editor Darren Shan. “What we got back has been some of the most fun art I’ve ever seen from Mark! And we couldn’t be luckier to have someone like Robbie to cherry pick the most classic moments in Marvel history. Then the two of them tie this all up into one perfect package. I think everyone will love these!”

The Press Release:
New York, NY-June 15, 2017- Marvel Comics is proud to announce a unique collaboration with Dustin Bates, lead singer and founder of the multi-media, modern rock band Starset, along with fan-favorite writer, Peter David (Ben Reilly: Scarlett Spider, Spider-Verse) for an all-new original 88-page graphic novel, THE PROX TRANSMISSIONS.

Inspired by the likes of Nikola Tesla and Carl Sagan, Starset’s albums, along with videos, websites, novels and one-of-a-kind live performances, were created as part of the over-arching concept, The Starset Society. Where science and fiction collide, The Starset Society is dedicated to publicizing emerging, near-future technologies and investigating their inevitable social, economic, political, and philosophical impact on society. Through this enlightening exploration, The Starset Society has teamed up with Marvel Comics to produce a one-of-a-kind adventure like nothing seen before.

A secret transmission from the far reaches of the galaxy falls into the hands of SETI radio astronomer Dr. Stephen Browning. His world begins to unravel as he discovers the cryptic message including information of advanced technology and a dire warning from the future. After Browning seeks aid of brilliant-yet-impetuous playboy Dr. Aston Wise, the two set off on an epic journey to discover the meaning of the transmission, only to discover that they are pawns in a much bigger game. Humanity hangs in the balance as powerful forces vie for control of the future, with only Wise and Browning to stop them.

Marvel Comics Says “Get Ready To Run” with The Runaways

Though I don’t recall keeping up with the series when it first debuted back in 2003, I’m pretty certain that my collection has a couple of the initial issues. That being said, the fine folks at Marvel Entertainment are rather excited about the return of the characters in a brand-new series. In hopes to expand the buzz around the upcoming title, Marvel Comics has released some images to press with the byline of “Get Ready To Run”. What these amount to are something similar to the character posters that we sometimes get to share with you from the big screen movies. Since I love showcasing these kinds of posters and variant comic cover editions, I’ll be adding any of the other characters to this same post to keep it focused. It begins with the character Nico. Here she is.
