Poster - Paganfest America at Irving Plaza - 2014

The Details: Sound the trumpets of righteous battle and prepare yourself for was because the 2014 edition of Paganfest America is here and that news finds my Metal blood reaching the boiling point. For those new to the touring package, this particular event has been hitting our shores for a few years now and brings us an exciting roster of bands for sure. This year’s event finds Korpiklaani, Turisas, Chthonic and Varg as the international touring acts that will be joined by the USA forged Winterhymn as the lead off band. I have seen all of these bands in the past and know that songs will be sung long afterward and many ales will be hoisted during the event that will hit Irving Plaza when it makes a stop here. To say that my journalistic sword is sharpened in anticipation for glorious combat is an understatement and that makes me happy to announce that thanks to the fine folks at Livenation, several of the PiercingMetal Legions will be joining me in the fray on this epic night. Read on.

Paganfest America for 2014: Lineup/Dates/Venues Arrive

You might be wondering why I am posting this a few weeks after the tour was first announced and the answer is quite simple. I decided to wait until the full itinerary of dates was unveiled so the fans can begin plotting and planning their attendance for this years “Paganfest America Tour”. The exciting event will find both Korpiklaani and Turisas on the co-headlining status while Chthonic and Varg get things started properly. More after the poster.

PiercingMetal has attended every single “Paganfest America Tour” when it happened to land in our fair Metal Metropolis and I am happy to add that we have supported all of the bands on this package during their other visits as well. That being said I can attest with some level of certainty that the fans who attend any of these events across the tour run will greatly enjoy themselves. For those new to the bands performing for some reason let me quickly line out that Korpiklaani are the lords of the Finnish Folk Metal scene and their blend of traditional instruments and melodies amped up to twelve makes for a whirlwind of a good time. The mighty Turisas will find you seeking armaments to ride into vengeful battle with their songs of might and adventure. These Finnish Metal warriors sport battle paint and mean business with every note. The Darker Metal sounds of Taiwan’s Chthonic will bring a Far East vibe to the night that will enthrall and of course Varg while similar in appearance to Turisas with the warrior paint have a different musical presentation and leave us with an event that will please all Metal senses. The U.S. run will also feature a band from our own soil called Winterhymn who are new to my ears but you can be sure I will be looking into them as well.

New Year’s Music Resolutions for 2014: Chapter 4

new year's music resolutions

Now we are cooking with gas. Yesteray’s chapter was a lot of fun but don’t worry readers I am not done with the presentation yet so welcome to our “Music Resolutions for 2014” Chapter 4. If you are just joining us now, be sure to click the appropriate tag so you can enjoy the other parts of the series. Now let’s get down to business.

1. Michael DesBarres: My musical plans are pretty simple.to make a lot of music..I feel unfettered by genre..Liberated from category.I want and will play whatever feels right in that moment…I’ve been experimenting with acoustic music in a more vulnerable way and also balls to the wall, cocksure rock and roll. Electronica fascinates me too.The choices of how you use the technology is what’s important. If you go to my website (linked below) you will see the disparate sides of my output.Specifically I am putting out a “Glam Folk” EP..yes, Glam Folk!! called “Solutionism”…acoustic sex music or all ages!..I will return to Japan with Silverhead in june and write a new song for a best of collection coming out in March.I have written a musical based on the imagination of the Marquis de Sade which I will release when it feels right.. I wish all your readers a happy and free year. Free to experiment, free to express the truth. Free.

2. Heidi Parvianen (Dark Sarah): My New Years MUSIC Resolution for 2014 Is that I will do everything to complete the DARK SARAH debut album called “Behind The Black Veil” by several Indie GoGo campaigns, I will add really cool guests on the album, we will do some cool metal riffs on the album, I will try to reach more people and convince you with this new musical style ;), I will try to arrange the first Dark Sarah concert EVER! AND I will complete my studies at the conservatory, I will do my first opera performance in a student opera and do several classical concerts too! But above all the details I know this year will kick ass!!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

New Year’s Music Resolutions for 2014: Chapter 2

new year's music resolutions

Welcome back to our annual series of “New Year’s Music Resolutions”; it’s our third year doing this and still a blast to get a glimpse inside these talented artists plans for the year. That said, let’s get down to business with the second chapter.

1. Mike LePond (Symphony X): My New Year’s Music Resolution is to release a new Symphony X and a new Solo album all in the same year.

2. JUNGLE ROT: To keep positive about our Industry when things go wrong or bad, I will make the best of it. Mostly while on the road, like when touring and having to make sure that we are getting paid out for the night, dealing with getting taxed on merch, even making sure to get our buy-out to eat for that day. Trying to stay positive after doing an 8hrs drive from the night before and pulling up to the venue and there is nowhere to park, even after you confirmed with the club that there would be, and to keep positive when we have to drive around for another hour trying to land a spot. (This is a sign of a bad night.) After 20 yrs. of touring and dealing with the business side of the band, it has taken a toll on me. I am starting to enjoy myself again over the last two years or so, and staying positive as much as I can has a lot to do with it. It took me a while, but I found out in the end that my bandmates have my back and will always assure me that when things get tough, that things will be all-right and will get better.

new year's music resolutions

“Gimme Five” readers, or better yet, how aboutI give you five. Yep, here we are at the Fifth Chapter of my collected “New Year’s Music Resolutions for 2013” from some musical greats. I’ve really enjoyed hearing what all of these artists have on their minds so far for the coming year and wait with anticipation for each new segment. Yeah I know I compiled the series, but I am reading it just as you would once its all loaded up so it keeps me thrilled. Here we go.

1. Sima (Solo Artist): My New Year’s Music Resolution for 2013 is to keep expressing my heart as a woman, an artist and stay true to myself. By doing this I will create new, rocking music, continue to explore my talent and look for new ways to get inspired and be creative. I truly want to reach out, touch, uplift and inspire individuals. I want to be a part of giving, receiving, and sharing love with people all over the world. I will challenge my abilities, myself as a human being and as an artist. I promise to grow, evolve, shine like a star from inside and out.

2. Angelina Del Carmen (Charetta): My band wrote mine for me ‘I will finally figure out how to use my vocal effects processor once and for all, so that I don’t further annoy my band by scrolling through the various settings repeatedly during rehearsal” – Angelina’s…. band’ But my biggest resolution for 2013 is to write, record, promote, and work fearlessly on our new book, album and clothing line.

3. Rachel Aspe (Solo Artist): My Metal Resolution for 2013 is to invade the whole world by winning “America’s Got Talent”, “X Factor”, “American Idol” and “The Voice” contests. Or maybe I’ll find a great band…
