One of the most renowned guitarists in the world, Alexi Laiho, has passed away. The musician, most notably known as the front man of Children of Bodom, died in his home in Helsinki, Finland, last week. Laiho had suffered from long-term health issues during his last years.
Alexi Laiho and drummer Jaska Raatikainen founded Children of Bodom in 1993, and the band was one of the most internationally acclaimed metal acts in Finland up until their very last farewell concert in December of 2019. Last year Alexi Laiho put together Bodom After Midnight, who recorded three songs and shot one music video, which will be released later on posthumously. Back in November, the Finnish Metal band Children Of Bodom announced that they were playing their final gigs with the current lineup. You can read that story HERE if you like. Now that the last show has come and gone, the former members have issued statement on their departure.

Dear fans,
2019 is coming to an end, so it’s a good time to take a look back before turning our gaze toward a new year. For us, 2019 was eventful, and a big part of that was playing our last COB gig in December.

Finland’s perhaps best known metal act, Children Of Bodom, will be playing their final show with the current line-up this coming December. ”A Chapter Called Children Of Bodom” will take place at the Black Box in Helsinki Ice hall on December 15th. Below is a statement from the band:
”It is with heavy hearts that we announce that 2019 will be the last for Children Of Bodom with this line-up. After almost 25 years with Bodom, thousands of shows & 10 albums it is time for Henkka, Janne and Jaska to step back and change direction within their lives. All three will miss the fans and supporters in every city in every country the band ever played. The last show of this line-up will be on the 15th of December at Helsinki Ice Hall. Tickets still remain for some of the Finnish shows in December. Alexi And Daniel will have further announcements about their plans to keep creating new music in the future. PiercingMetal Thoughts: Perkele. This is some sad news for sure since the lineup of a few years in Children Of Bodom have been bringing their excellent brand of Melodic Death Metal to the masses for awhile. I will miss what they were all about but remain on the hopeful side for what is to come. Speaking frankly, I am thinking that COB ceases to exist as a thing and when the time is right to announce something, it will be something completely new under Laiho’s creative guidance. Considering how good so much of their output was I will close this up by saying “Onnea” to the guyds and wait for additional announcements. Thank you COB, goodnight.

Finland’s melodic death superstars CHILDREN OF BODOM will release their tenth album, “Hexed”, on March 8, 2019 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Today, the band is proud to announce their Hexed 2019 North American Tour. The trek will kick off in Quebec City on March 13 and conclude in New York City on April 19th. Supporting the band are Finnish death-doom melody-makers SWALLOW THE SUN and Finnish epic melodic Death Metal quartet WOLFHEART as well as SUMMONER’S CIRCLE (March 13-16 & April 9-19), HOLLOW CRY (March 18-29) and FRAGMENTUM (March 30 April 7) who are opening select shows.
