Fathom Events Presents “The Grateful Dead Movie” For One Night Only On 4/20

The fine folks at Fathom Events are at it again with something special and their one night only showing of the 1977 classic “The Grateful Dead Movie”. The film will be 40 years old later this year and you can learn more about this event down below. I’ve even got the promotional trailer for you to make sure all the bases are covered. Check it out.

The Press Release:
On 4/20, meet up with friends and fellow Dead Heads in cinemas nationwide for a Grateful gathering to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original Grateful Dead documentary, The Grateful Dead Movie. Co-directed by Jerry Garcia and Leon Gast, this concert film features live performances from the October 1974 5-night run at San Francisco’s iconic Winterland held during the band’s so-called “retirement” prior to taking a two-year sabbatical. Performances include “U.S. Blues,” “One More Saturday Night,” “Casey Jones,” “Playing in the Band” and “Sugar Magnolia,” among other Dead classics. Before the show, audiences will get exclusive access to a special mini-documentary featuring fans reminiscing about the most famous Grateful Dead show of all time, which took place 40 years ago, on May 8, 1977, at Barton Hall at Cornell University.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Though I’ve never seen the film as a whole, I am pretty sure that I have seen clips from this in various documentaries that have aired over the years. In 1977 I was only getting myself into my heavier music like KISS and whatever else was loud on WNEW radio station. I have to see if I am free to attend this movie on 4/20 since April is proving to be a very busy month for me but I wonder what you readers think about this one. Maybe I will try to get a contest going as well since I have done some of these for Fathom Events over the last few months. Those who don’t want to miss out on a ticket for this can check out THIS LINK to get a spot straight away.

The Dead and Company Announce Summer 2017 Dates

I guess the end of Fall is a little early to announce summer tour dates for the coming year but that is what we have to discuss at the moment as the group Dead and Company has recently announced their Summer 2017 dates. Actually if you are going to be a stickler about it, the tour begins at the end of Spring and continues on into the early weeks of the hopefully hot months.

The Press Release: (kinda sorta)
The Dead and Company, a band fronted by John Mayer and three founding members of the Grateful Dead, will return again next year and just the other day have announced a five week tour of the United States. As you see listed below, this run will be only about “19” dates and begin at Las Vegas before it ends with two nights at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. The band began their own new musical adventure at the famed Madison Square Garden in October 2015 showcasing a continuation of the Grateful Dead legacy only a few short months after the legendary band performed the last of their “Fare Thee Well” concerts. The full band lineup is John Mayer (vocals and lead guitar), Bob Weir (guitar and vocals) with drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann. The sound is completed by Oteil Burbridge (bass) and Jeff Chimenti (keyboards). The two musicians originally hail from The Allman Brothers Band and RatDog respectively. I’ve culled together the dates and venues in the cities that they will be visiting. Time to mark down your calendars if you are a fan of this music.

“Fare Thee Well” [Blu-ray/CD] by The Grateful Dead

Artist: Grateful Dead
Title: “Fare Thee Well”
Label: Rhino Entertainment
Release Date: 11/20/2015
Genre: Rock
Rating: 4/5

Back in the Summer of 2015, the surviving members of The Grateful Dead, meaning Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreautzmann, were joined together in music with long time keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, Bruce Hornsby and Trey Anastasio for a series of shows under the “Fare Thee Well” banner. These shows would be celebrating the milestone 50th Anniversary of the Grateful Dead and also would be the last time that the name would be used for concerts and recording. There would be a total of five concerts with two being in California, while the remaining and final three would happen at Chicago’s Soldier Field and this Blu-ray/CD set delivers the full final performance of The Grateful Dead. Over the course of my life I didn’t initially enjoy what The Dead was all about but this was because a lot of my friends who did like them would always tell me that what I listened to sucked. My appreciation of Hard Rock and the burgeoning Metal sound found me alienating what the Dead offered up purely by association to those memories. I admit this to you readers because that was a long time ago and since that time I have learned to appreciate a whole lot of Grateful Dead music but mostly by way of the “greatest hits” that every single other casual fan might know. The concert is a long one and something like 180 minutes/three hours long and each set is delivered on separate discs. Let’s go over the first set.
