Breaking: B.B. King Blues Club & Grill Announces Final Shows

I had to look this up and it was apparently Chaucer who coined the phrase that “all good things must come to an end” and sadly, this quote now applies to the venerated Times Square nightclub B.B. King Blues Club and Grill which will shut its doors in the coming weeks. Below please find the full press statement on the matter and I will close out with some thoughts as a longtime patron.

The Press Release:
After 18 years of hosting some of music and entertainment’s most revered names, B.B. King Blues Club & Grill has announced its final run of shows in its current Times Square location (237 W 42nd St). Due to escalating rent, the historic venue and supper club is forced to close its doors with a final performance on April 29, 2018. B.B. King Blues Club is in the process of selecting a new location in Manhattan to relocate the venue.

To honor its storied legacy, B.B. King’s will host a very special closing week celebration which will consist of performances by: Buddy Guy, Rick Ross, Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh + Special Guests, El Gran Combo, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic and more. Buddy Guy will headline the final B.B. King Blues Club show on Sunday, April 29. Attention: Sony Hall’s Grand-Opening Is March 27th 2018

Back in February we shared the news item about the partnership of the Blue Note Media Group and the Sony Corporation and if you didn’t see that broadcast please click HERE so you are up to speed for the next bit of news.

So earlier today the venues Official Facebook Page announced that their Grand-Opening will be on March 27th and feature a performance by the group known as MGMT. I didn’t know the name off the top of my head so did a quick check in Spotify and can safely say that its not particular sound preference. Good for them being the debut act at the new space and before I continue here is the scoop on the space as taken from their website.

ABOUT SONY HALL: Sony Hall is the new premiere music venue in New York City focused on presenting world renowned performing artists across all music genres, powered by state of the art technology. Owned/operated by Blue Note Entertainment Group and sponsored by Sony Corporation, Sony Hall is located in the heart of New York’s Theatre District (at the Paramount Hotel), with capacities of 1,000 standing and 500 seated, and a full-service restaurant and bar. Sony Hall will be equipped with Sony’s technologies, integrated throughout the 12,000 square-foot venue to deliver enhanced entertainment experiences to fans.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Since I am a very frequent concert goer I love the idea of another space opening up. This is a good size as its comparable to both Irving Plaza and the Times Square staple B.B. King Blues Club and Grill. I think that Stage 48 can host a couple of hundred more people than this new space but there haven’t been a lot of musical acts there lately and its been more Dance Hall nights. Spectrum Hall will not reopen for another two and a half years so let’s be excited for this place. There isn’t much more to add about this news but as I get the Events Calendar populated with the types of shows our readers most enjoy, you’d be able to find them using this TAG. Please know that at this point in time there are no listings to peruse but I’ll keep watching the page to be on point. What do you readers think about this upcoming grand opening?
