Artist: Black Label Society Title: “European Invasion – Doom Troopin’” [Blu-ray] Label: Eagle Vision Release Date: 8/24/2010 Genre: Hard Rock Rating: 4/5
The advances of technology and upgrades in the way that we are able to enjoy music videos and audio releases now finds the once over being given to Black Label Society’s DVD “European Invasion – Doom Troopin’” DVD which now comes to us in Blu-ray format. As with all Blu-rays, these versions are much better visually and in terms of the audio that they offer and in the case of this particular one finds two DVD’s being delivered on a single disc. That being said the rest of the release is exactly the same as the previous version which we found being delivered to the assorted BLS chapters back in 2006. Having noted the immediate differences, the rest of our thoughts on this release remain the same as when it first came out. Check out what we had to say about it once again.
“Doom Troopin’ Live: The European Invasion” finds Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society in Rock solid form once again. The second DVD from the guitarist is a lot better than the “Boozed, Bruised and Broken Boned” release from a couple of years ago in terms of both camera work and overall production. “BBBB” seemed to be a little too thrown together and lost my interest at a number of turns while this new release had me from start to finish. Clearly they were paying a little more attention to details and quality this time around. This video finds BLS in support of their Artemis Records album “Mafia” and shortly after the album tour completed the band would leave the label to join Roadrunner Records. Fortunately for all Chapter members the good folks at Eagle Vision captured a killer set of tunes on film when the group hit Europe and give it to them in vibrant color. The first DVD of the two disk set features a long performance from Paris (with the Paris Chapter as they call it) along with just under a handful of songs from the London Astoria (noted with an “*” below). As the casual BLS fan I was happy to find the songs I enjoyed most present here such as “Stillborn” along with newer, quality numbers like “Suicide Messiah” and “In This River”. Wylde dedicates this particular song to his fallen Brother Dimebag Darrell Abbott and truly rips the strings like never before with this number. Clearly, Dime is not someone who will easily be forgotten especially when it comes to Zakk and their Friendship. Continue reading “European Invasion – Doom Troopin’” [Blu-ray] by Black Label Society→
Artist: Black Sabbath Title: “Classic Albums: Paranoid” (Blu-ray) Label: Eagle Vision Release Date: 6/29/2010 Genre: Heavy Metal Rating: 3.75/5
If you are among the hardest core of the Black Sabbath followers in the Metal Music Republic then there is a good chance that you want to own this release in the higher quality Blu-ray version as opposed to the standard DVD which comes to the world at the very same time. There is no real difference other than the visual and audio which is a lot crisper and cleaner than on the other edition.
Continuing to deliver the often outstanding VH1 series “Classic Albums”, Eagle Vision delivers the goods on one of Heavy Metal’s most influential albums of all time – Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid”. I could end my thoughts about this release right here because it is unlikely that any Metal heads exist that don’t want to know the thought and creative processes that went into making such a legendary album. Sabbath as a band had debuted the year before with their self-titled album and yes this was a killer but it was not until the release of the second LP “Paranoid” that the larger part of the world was made aware that something heavy this way comes. I’m sure that when the Sabs were composing this eventually classic release that they were simply trying to come up with a solid follow-up to their debut and as many a heavy music fan will attest, “Paranoid” is one of the greatest of all time when it comes down to it. If you disagree with me, take a look at your friends music collections whether they be LP, CD, pre-recorded tape and even those that might still have a working 8 Track. You will probably find the album “Paranoid” in more than 75% of the observed sample. That being said, it is amazing to listen and learn from this documentary as it presents views from the full lineup of Sabbath and each offers up their insight as to where their creative head was at the time they did it. Artist: Styx Title: “One With Everything” [Blu-ray] Label: Eagle Vision Release Date: 4/21/2009 Genre: Progressive Hard Rock Rating: 4/5
Originally released as a standard DVD in 2006, the advances in media technology finds this great video from Styx being released in Blu-ray format. There are no differences between this version and its predecessor in terms of overall content but the picture is clearer and brighter while the sound all the more intense. As I’ve the same opinion of the release as I did when it was first discussed I am re-presenting it to you now and then a few more words about the Blu-ray will be entertained.
