The last time Vader had toured in the USA they were participating in the Summer Slaughter Tour and were sharing the stage with Kataklysm, Black Dahlia Murder and Cryptopsy along with a host of other up and coming powerhouse Metal bands. The band sounded fantastic but would only play a meager twenty minute set and this left the audience screaming for more and also a little bit cheated since many had actually come to the show exclusively for the Vader appearance. Since that time the band has joined up with Nuclear Blast Records and just recently released their latest album “Necropolis” and armed with this would embark on the Masters Of Death tour with label mates Decrepit Birth, Warbringer, The Amenta, Augury and Rose Funeral. That was a seriously heavy roster and we were happy to be a part of it. Here is how the night went down.

First we had the “Paganfest USA” which would be followed by the “Pagan Knights” and these events were successful in bringing the Celtic, Viking, and Folk Metal bands all together for our entertainment. They worked well in bringing us groups that would not have truly be able to do touring in this part of the world if they had come alone and as result gave the Metal legions some rousing experiences. Tonight’s agenda would present the fans with the “Heathen Fest” and I had hoped that this would be as entertaining as those other events had been over the past year and a half. The great thing was that it would compile some of the bands seen on those other tours and add to the mix a couple of new ones for good measure. Headlining the show would be Eluveitie who I had not seen since the first Pagan Fest in 2008. They returned as a headliner later in the year but were doing so on the same night as Amorphis had happened to be playing and since their span of time between visits had been so lengthy I decided that I would have to pass on the Folk Metal rockers that time. Lucky for all who happened to go to Amorphis, Eluveitie would not wait for a couple of years to come and visit us again. Direct support would come from Belphegor and kicking off the show would be Kivimetsan Druidi, Vreid and Alestorm. From beginning to end this all seemed interesting so we got inside nice and early to be sure to absorb all the bands in full. Here is what happened if you by any chance missed out.

Minnie d’Moocha Pin-Up Madness @ Blender Theater at Gramercy (11/17/2009)

I was one of the Big Apple’s media scribes in attendance for the show taking place at the Blender Theater at Gramercy for the NSFW folks in The Genitorturers and that concert was discussed in full on THIS LINK so check that out when you have a moment. During the show I struck up conversation with some lovely ladies who ended up being burlesque performers and pin-up models and with that being the case some impromptu downstairs lobby photo shoots came to pass. First up is Minnie d’Moocha who is actually someone who has already made a name for herself in this regard. I can see how since she is awesome.

Although I remember reviewing a CD or DVD release or two in the past from the Genitorturers, I had to admit that they were never really my thing and I was more focused on the blazing Power Metal or the crushing sounds brought on by those dark Norwegian powers that be. Of course there was a certain amount of curiosity about how they did their stuff in the live sense and fortunately when the group came through town to promote their latest album “Blackheart Revolution” I felt it would be the perfect chance to learn. The show would be at The Gramercy Theatre and have Nassau Chainsaw and Sex Slaves as the openers. I wanted to see what everyone was like tonight so I made sure to arrive nice and early. Here is how the show went down for those who are wondering.

After the rather intense happenings of last week I was almost thankful that there was a few days breather for me after the chaos experienced at the GWAR show. That was probably the wildest and most dangerous room I had walked into for a show in a long, long time (and remember that I was saying this after only seeing Municipal Waste a couple of days prior). Now with my composure regained and the fright of a moving barricade gone from my mind for the most part I was at the ready to welcome back the one and only Marduk who were back as they had promised us a number of months ago when they did those three East Coast shows. Their return was for a full length tour called the “US Plague Tour” and it found Nachtmystium, Merrimack, Mantic Ritual and Black Anvil setting up the night for them across the hapless cities of America. Like many shows in NYC tonight’s gig would have a local opened but we missed Dimention entirely and arrived just in time to see Black Anvil take the stage. Here is how the night progressed for any foolish enough to have missed it.
