Mattel’s “DC Superhero Girls” Available Now!

logo-dc-superhero-girls

When I went to the local comic book shop to check out the new titles for the week, I took notice of the racks of action figures and saw that a few new characters in the “DC Superhero Girls” line was now available. Considering that I think this is a fantastic idea to get more girls into the comics and action figures as a whole, I felt sharing the images of the items was a good idea since we are rapidly approaching the gifting season. Thanksgiving is now around the corner and before you blink it will be Christmas and Chanukah and I want you ready to get some heroic goodness out to the ones you love.

I actually saw my first glimpse of this action figure line by Mattel when I visited the Play Fair portion of the American International Toy Fair earlier this year. My overview of that specific aspect can be examined on my PiercingKen.com site with THIS LINK so do please check it out. Now since these were on the racks I could only get this kind of photo but they are nice and clear and very legible. I don’t think that I need to name the characters since so many are instantly identifiable as well. Each figure is about 6″ tall and comes with an accessory of some sort. Here we go.

We are cooking with gas now in terms of the amount of “Rebirth” titles hitting the stands and its enough to say that you better ask for little overtime at the job or setup a table outside on the block to sell some things you don’t need in order to buy some more. That whole vicious cycle  Below you will find the official press provisions about the first issue offerings from DC Comics along with the covers and then I will return at the close with a few more thoughts.

DC Comics First Issues + Coming March 2016

Wow. Can you believe we are in March already? This 2016 year is playing no games in terms of the speed that its passing us by and while I often refer to the month as “March Metal Madness” for the heavy music stuff I guess I am going to start citing this as “March Media Madness” for the films and comic book postings like this one. That being said, let’s get to examining the offerings from DC Comics. Historically speaking about these posts, I’ve locked into only presenting those first issues coming out but with this month we have to pay some attention to the fact that the remaining titles that fell under “The New 52” labelling are reaching their 50th issue this month. Those covers and premise from the DC media desk are presented for your shopping ease. Let’s go.

DC Comics Proudly Presents: “The New 52” hits 52!

Believe it or not, we are heading toward the fifty second issue of many of the currently running DC Comics titles. Back in 2011, the company relaunched “52” of its core titles under the banner of “The New 52” and this press release and images will help us celebrate the momentous occasion. Read on down below.

The Press Release:
Celebrating 52 issues of incredible storytelling, DC Entertainment’s May 2016 variant cover theme will pay homage to the #1 issues of eleven comics that debuted in 2011 when DC Entertainment rebooted their superhero publishing line and revitalized the comics industry as a whole. It was a momentous occasion then, and is an anniversary to celebrate now!

Inspired by Cliff Chiang’s Wonder Woman #1, Rags Morales and Brad Anderson’s Action Comics #1, Adam Hughes’ Batgirl #1, and more, these brand-new “The New 52” variants will grace the covers of those same landmark titles that are hitting issue #52 in May. Illustrated by an all-star lineup of incredible talent, May’s lineup of variant covers are as remarkable as the industry-changing covers they’re based on. “The New 52” variants are the latest in a variety of monthly themes.

Television’s “Batgirl” Actress Yvonne Craig Has Died (8/17/2015)

Woke up to the news that the first actress to ever portray “Batgirl” has died at aged 78.

Photo - Yvonne Craig - 1968

Man does this make me sad because I fondly remember Ms. Craig from that Batman television series and am pretty sure she was the first crush that I had even at a very, very, very young age. The original “Batman” series is of course the place that many fans of Craigs work remember her for and this is even stronger in today’s instantly gratified society now that the classic Batman show has finally been released on video. She would join onto the show during its third and final season as “Batgirl/Barbara Gordon” and it was always fun to see the exchanges between Adam West, Burt Ward and herself. Only Alfred knew she was Batgirl in case you wondered. The outfit rocked as well and was totally sixties and believe it or not this still holds up as the ultimate in Batgirl look for most fans of the character. Given my personal vintage I would first watch these shows once they went into syndication and I am thinking that I was around five years old at the time. Outside of the iconic Batman appearance, Craig would also appear in assorted other fantasy/action shows of the time such as “Star Trek”, “Land Of The Giants”, “Ghost and Mrs. Muir” and “Man From U.N.C.L.E.”. According to Kevin Clement, founder of the Chiller Theater Convention, Craig was always a hit with the attendees and a many years guest at the convention and she will be sorely missed. The actress died in her home after battling breast cancer. Rest In Peace Yvonne Craig, we all loved you.
