The Press Release:
Ultraman fans, get ready to take your fandom to a new level! Today, Tsuburaya Productions announced that Japan’s most iconic superhero Ultraman is taking over New York Comic Con like never before. Throughout the weekend, fans of the pop culture franchise will have access to Ultraman content at the Jacob Javits Center and across the New York area from must-attend panels, collectible merch, a live stage show, and more!
The Ultraman universe first debuted in 1966 in the television series Ultra Q and over the last 58+ years, the Ultraman franchise has spawned a record number of television series, films, video games, and more. The presence of Ultraman at New York Comic Con comes at a time of major growth and increased brand awareness of the Ultraman franchise, sparked by the recent hit-maker Ultraman: Rising, which landed on Netflix in June and has become a fan-favorite and critical darling. Back in October, PiercingMetal was in attendance at the 2023 edition of the famed New York Comic Con which took over the Javits Center for four days. During the course of our media coverage of the event, a series of artist interviews were done by site founder Ken Pierce. While all of these videos are resident on the Official PiercingMetal YouTube Channel, several have been collected into this post to expand the coverage that gets featured on the website. This is the second in a series of installments that will run until all the videos from NYCC 2023 have all been featured.
It was that time of the year again for the always amazing “Sweet Suite” event that comes care of the fine folks at the Toy Insider. According to my notes, I’ve been attending Toy Insider happenings since 2016 and I look forward to it each and every time. This year I’ve decided to post the coverage a little differently since while some things are best served up here on PiercingMetal, there are also a number of amazing products that I can feature over on “The Chronicles of Piercing Ken”. Let’s start off with some visuals from the Playmates Toys booth.
I’ll begin with what they had from their “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” line. Some of you might have already seen a couple of these items from “The Play Date” event where I did a product overview video with them but some items are new for the season. I love the smaller figures and plan on getting myself a set soon. I still have the original action figures from long, long ago in a box somewhere.
Hello again my friends and welcome back to another bit of convention coverage and photo presenting from the 5th Annual Anime NYC. I’ve been attending this one since it began and for those new to the event and these kinds of proceedings, its a creation of the fine folks at Leftfield Media and is presented by Crunchyroll. Now as I’ve probably mentioned somewhere else, I am not the biggest study in the world of Anime despite my deep appreciation for all things comic books and those films that relate to the characters that I grew up with. With all that being said we are back at the Javits Center almost a month after the famed New York Comic Con and were very excited to see what was going on in this always fun time. Once I secured my press badge, I poked around and learned that there would be no proper opening ceremonies and I learned it was in the interest of continued COVID-19 protection. This surprised me since so many events had moved past this by this time but thanks to a report from our former idiot Mayor DiBlasio last year, he alarmed the city with reports that a spreader event had happened here. It did not but I digress. Before the adventuring began I’ve taken a page out of my NYCC posts and did a short clip for the three networks and share the one from our Official YouTube here.
Greetings my fellow Geeks and welcome back to another awesome Special Feature photo focus from the 2022 edition of the New York Comic Con. As previously discussed, I finished the traditional convention coverage a few days ago and am now posting succinct focuses on some of the brands that we encountered along the way. I felt doing this would make the whole presentation a bit more interesting when all was said and done. If you have only just joined us on the website and missed the earlier posts I’d suggest that you click HERE as that will open up everything in a new browser tab for you to peruse in order. As a bit of a continuity maven I like to do things in that fashion.
This Special Feature shines the spotlight on the Bandai Namco brand as they had a lot of stuff presented in a truly massive pavilion. I talked about that before the convention began in a post that you can refer to HERE. I got as much as I could but do think that I might have missed a few things as I walked around. This was a very, very busy pavilion and it was awesome to see all of these great collectibles in one place. Have a look…
The giant inflatable dragon up above welcomed the fans to massive Bandai pavilion and there were a number of cool statues around that you could take photos of but not touch of course.
