PiercingMetal Thoughts: Wow. I can hardly believe that its been thirty years since the world was laid to waste by GWAR and believe it or not, I’ve been listening to the band since this very album and remember playing it on repeat for friends on those drinking cold beers in the Metal Sanctum of my family home. I spun the release on Spotify as I cobbled this news alert together and can say that it seems to have aged well. The parts that shocked me way back when still manage to do that while the parts that I always got a chuckle from still did their part as well. There seems to be a lot of cool stuff packed into this one but its going to run the interested fan about $150 so start planning that overtime and less eating out at fast food places to guarantee you have the extra scratch to offer up to the Lords of Chaos. Chime in down below with what you think about this special edition. See you next time.

GWAR @ Fillmore at Irving Plaza (12/13/2009)

Logo - GWAR

Artist: GWAR
Venue: The Fillmore NY (New York, NY)
Opener: The Red Chord, Job For A Cowboy
Date: 12/13/2009
Label: Metal Blade Records

While the band has been something that the people of Earth have been aware of for twenty five years, the origins and history of the band GWAR goes back over 43 million years to when their members were denizens of the planet Scumdogia. Eventually they found their way to Antarctica where they laid buried beneath tons of snow and ice for many, many years until they were unfortunately unleashed upon our modern day society by now manager Sleazy P. Martini. Since that time the band has devastated the concert stage and the unworthy audience members who pledge their souls in allegiance to them for over two decades and with their newest album “Lust In Space” they show no signs of giving us a way out of their booby trap laden web. Tonight would be New York’s turn and apparently the final night of touring for the band until their appetite for destruction had returned and found them seeking out fresh victims once again. The tour found a completely Metal Blade Records roster as the support and that can’t be bad for business as both The Red Chord and Job For A Cowboy got things started. I made sure to get into The Fillmore NY early enough to enjoy everyone and when I walked in I found the place to be strangely carpeted. My guess was this would absorb the various “goop” that comes along with a GWAR show.

“Live From Mt. Fuji” by GWAR

Artist: GWAR
Title: “Live From Mount Fuji”
Label: Metal Blade Records
Release Date: 5/31/2005
Genre: Heavy Metal
Rating: 6/10

The return to Earth by GWAR is never an event that bodes much good for the Human Race. Their needs are generally base when it comes to us for they either need new Slaves or fodder to dismember during their live performances. Sadly, their return with this CD proves something more insidious, they are giving us a live album. No one is safe now. I know that I am risking my own doom for speaking out of turn on this heralded and awed Intergalactic presence, but I fear I must speak my mind. I was disappointed to find only a live CD and not a visual representation of this show released. GWAR is one of those groups that truly must be seen in person to appreciate in any sense. Otherwise you fail to get the point of what they do and also it makes just listening to them a little difficult to appreciate. There are a lot of jokes going on back and forth between the band members and audience and literally the evening is generally pure chaos when they perform.
