Artist: Immolation
Venue: The Studio (New York, NY)
Opener: Arsis & Disma
Date: 7/28/2010
Label: Nuclear Blast Records

This was proving to be a weird if not interesting month of Metal and Hard Rock for me as a keeper of the scene on the internet page for I had not been able to take part in the crushing shows held by Iron Maiden, Rush and Faith No More even though all had visited our fair city. Outside of these I had been very busy supporting much of the true “what’s hot in Metal” side by taking part in the Soilwork, Fear Factory and Charred Walls Of The Damned shows and tonight would continue the process by being on point as New York’s own Immolation touched ground below the caverns of Webster Hall in the venue called The Studio. Out in Brooklyn it seemed as though Steven Adler, formerly of Guns ‘N Roses, would be doing a gig with his band but when you added the fact that Arsis would be supporting the Immolation guys, this was a no brainer for me. My friends and I started our night off early at a bar we love called Duke’s over on 19th Street and while a slightly further distance than we would have liked, there is no better place to start the fun for shows in this immediate area. We headed inside just in time to catch the openers Disma and here is how the night went down.

Arch Enemy & Exodus @ Nokia Theatre Times Square (1/22/2010)

Artist: Arch Enemy
Venue: Nokia Theatre Times Square (New York, NY)
Opener: Exodus, Arsis, Mutiny Within
Date: 1/22/2010
Label: Century Media Records

It was great to find Arch Enemy doing a headlining tour again because the last time that we found them visiting us in NYC they were doing a “co-headlining” run called “The Black Tyranny Tour”. This excellent event paired them with Roadrunner Records’ own Machinehead and while they lined it out as co-headlining gigs, Arch had always seemed to be the direct support for Machinehead and I am not sure there were too many swapped shows. Of course, I don’t think many of the Metal legions actually minded about this back when those shows had happened because Machinehead was on the rise again and dishing out the tunes for those who enjoyed the incredible sounds on their album of the time “The Blackening”. Tonight’s gig would be an interesting one as it found Exodus hitting the stage as the bands direct support and give us the long awaited return of Arsis while also treating us to some relative newcomers to the scene with Mutiny Within.

Death Angel @ B.B. King Blues Club (6/11/2008)

Artist: Death Angel
Venue: B.B. King Blues Club (New York, NY)
Opener: God Forbid, Arsis, Martyd
Date: 6/11/2008
Label: Nuclear Blast Records

The interesting thing about tonight’s show outside of the healthy dose of Metal we were definately in store for was all of the changes that occured before it actually happened. The original plan was that God Forbid and Death Angel would be doing this co-headlining thing and direct support would come from both Light This City and Soilent Green. Yet as the date closed in on us it seemed as though Light This City would cancel for unknown reasons and Soilent Green had gone out on tour with Dethklok. In the place of these acts would be Arsis and that in the end worked out very well for me since I am enjoying what they do for the Metal masses. An unsigned opening act called Martryd would kick things off very early in the evening but we would not be present for the majority of their set.

Exodus @ B.B. King Blues Club (2/4/2008)

Exodus were legends in the Bay Area Thrash movement and while many genres have come to exist since those early days, these guys still manage to deliver a crushing set of the purest stuff that the genre ever gave birth to. Tonight’s show at B.B. King Blues Club would find them joined by Arsis, Warbringer and Goatwhore and it was definitely a rousing one. We made sure to be on point for all the performers and if you want to see more just scroll past the logo below.

Historically speaking, Exodus is one of the founding fathers that’s often respectfully referred to when one opens the chronicles and looks back at the dawning of the Thrash Metal movement. The band was originally formed by guitarist Gary Holt, drummer Tom Hunting and guitarist Kirk Hammett in 1980, and while Hammett would go on to join Metallica, both Holt and Hunting and what seemed to be a rotation of players would continue on for the forces of Metal world wide . For those who are old enough to have experienced it firsthand the band holds a very special place in their hearts to this very day no matter how much of lifes daily trials and tribulations are put upon us. The Metal scene was quite profound during this genres formative years and its power has not ebbed at all it would seem. The younger fans only remember the bands formation from reading about it or watching videos on YouTube.com but have made sure to keep up by following their later years through purchasing albums and hitting the shows. Tonight at B.B. King Blues Club in New York we would find an incredible mix of a wide variety of musical talent and there wasn’t anyone in the room who would argue with you. The show found Exodus bringing along Goatwhore as direct support and also the super technical talents of Arsis and youthful exuberance of Warbringer. The Metal youth of Warbringer would come up first and here is how the night went down.
