All You Need Is “The Beatles”: Now Remastered (9/9/2009)

Metal website’s official blog or not this is some pretty big and super cool news. The Beatles catalog has been fully remastered and is available as of a couple of days ago and what a day to offer it up to their fans, September 9th 2009 or “9-9-9” (you know like the song “Revolution #9 that says “number 9, number 9, number 9” again and again. This is also cool news for those fans who are a little too young to have fully appreciated the band and might be curious about those round black plates in their parents music collection. Sadly those entrenched in the digital age will need to hold on as these are purely physical releases and not available in iTunes or even Amazon.com MP3 providers at this time. I am sure we shall see this happening soon enough though.

The Knitting Factory Says “No Sleep Till Brooklyn!!!!”

Just the other night, the world-famous New York location of The Knitting Factory had its last show, and I will admit that this news makes me kind of sad.  Granted the club is not closing for good and never coming back, they have just decided that the Tribeca would be closed down and then relocated over to Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  One has to agree that this neighborhood is a hot area in terms of bars and clubs but how the new Knitting Factory will fair over there is anyone’s guess.  It now will be in direct competition with The Music Hall Of Williamsburg (the new name for The North Six) and The Warsaw.  There is also Club Europa but that is in Greenpoint and only a hop, skip and a jump away from Williamsburg.  Technically speaking this news first came about a year ago but then shows kept happening so I was hopeful that it was incorrect.  I guess I was wrong and that saddens me because I loved the layout of the venue in the Tribeca space.

Airing Tonight: “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” Season 4

Attention all KISS Fans and Reality Television Fans of the world, it is time to unite once more because Season 4 of “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” begins tonight on the A&E Network. Have you watched this program yet? I hope so if you are a KISS fan of any kind.

For those who are unaware of the premise even after three seasons have run, I can quickly say that it follows the life and times of Gene Simmons, musician and businessman along with his significant other Shannon Tweed and gives you an inside look into his happenings. I’ll admit I am a little bit behind in the program myself but I love it. Of course I’ve been a KISS fan since about 1977 or so and as a former business student I love getting the chance to see what Simmons does to keep his name in the public eye. His kids are actually also a lot of fun as they are well rounded individuals and show no signs of being spoiled by good fortune. I think if you enjoy these kinds of shows that you should find some interest as the show reaches its fourth season. That’s all I have for you right now my friends, its time for me to set the VHS Recorder now in case I cannot stay up from all these shows.

Airing Tonight: “That Metal Show” Season 2

Earlier in the year, VH1 Classic gave us a brand new program that was dedicated to “all things Hard Rock and Heavy Metal” and it was hosted by radio personality Eddie Trunk and called “That Metal Show”. He is joined by co-hosts Don Jamieson and Jim Florentine who are both comedians. Tonight begins the second season of the program and I’ve used the blog to showcase the occasional television or film subject that works in our readers interest so let’s continue the practice and herald stuff like this.

As with the first season, the show remains at a half hour so its over before you know it (well at least it feels that way to me when I sit down to watch it). The segments of “Stump The Trunk” and “The Throwdown” will return for the sophomore season and the publicized guests are as follows. Please check your local listings for the airing times/dates.

1 – Pantera: Vinnie Paul
2 – Anthrax: Frank Bello
3 – Extreme: Nuno Bettencourt and Gary Cherone
4 – Anvil: Steve “Lips” Kudlow and Robb Reiner
5 – Guns N’ Roses: Duff McKagan
6 – Queensrÿche: Geoff Tate
