The coverage of Metal tributes in terms of bands or releases that have been doled out are not generally the forte or focus over on PiercingMetal.com because there are just too many of them to address. Let’s face it and be brutally honest here and also line out that more than half of them are dreadful little undertakings with little to offer any fan of the band that they are emulating. That being said, I had some stirring of actual excitement when the DVD for Queen Diamond’s “Live at the Black Lodge” arrived for me to enjoy. Luckily, I have had some experience with the band as I had witnessed a set of their music when Beatallica performed at the Highline Ballroom last September. Before I continue on let me educate the readers and say that Queen Diamond is the all-girl tribute to the music and morbid majesty of Mercyful Fate’s former front man King Diamond. Based on this fact anyone who would be able to witness the band would automatically have some expectations about what would come from them in concert. At this show I found them musically on par with the band they were emulating and lead singer, the Queen herself, was made up in the same sinister face paint that King sported night after night. My reservation about the appearance was the complete lack of props and theatrics, so this DVD video really was piquing my interest. The group is made up of members from the Paul Green School Of Rock, and should you want more information about them we have provided a link for you to do that research later. This piece of internet copy is about the DVD and now let’s dig into it. Continue reading “Live At The Black Lodge” by Queen Diamond→
The Cursed was an interesting side project that featured Bobby Blitz from Overkill and Dan Lorenzo from Hades/Non Fiction. This was announced as their first and last gig but in Rock and Roll things are never quite set in stone. Opening up the night was Joey Belladonna formerly of Anthrax and the Paul Green School Of Rock All-Stars who performed Metal standards. It was a great night and should you want to learn more about it just scroll past the logo. We made sure to document everyone’s performance and take photos of all of them as well.
Artist: The Cursed Venue: Highline Ballroom (New York, NY) Opener: Joey Belladonna, School Of Rock All Stars Date: 5/20/2007 Label: Locomotive Music
If you have been going to a lot of concerts in the New York Area lately then you are already aware of some of the mainstays as far as the venues are concerned. One of the biggest providers of events for the Metal Community has been B.B. King Blues Club and over the course of three years I think we have covered about sixty shows from the venue. The performers have been some of the biggest acts across the wide genre scope that Metal has and now the owners have decided to up their game with the grand opening of The Highline Ballroom. The Highline is located Downtown on 16th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues and the venue is something awesome when it comes right down to it. This spacious room has a larger floor area than B. B. King’s and an upstairs seating area as well as a roomy stage for the bands to give you their all upon. The sound and lighting systems is top notch as well so it would be a treat to come here for the first time and review the appearance of Bobby Blitz’s side project The Cursed. For tonight’s show the Overkill singer would bring with him Joey Belladonna formerly of Anthrax and The School Of Rock All-Stars as the guest openers. Here is what you missed out on if you could not attend. Continue reading The Cursed @ Highline Ballroom (5/20/2007)→
