Revisiting The “Metal Resolutions of 2012”

new year's music resolutions

Last year, as 2011 was drawing to a close, I found myself wondering what many of the musical personality that I had come into contact with as a music journalist had as their “New Year’s Metal Resolution” for the coming year of 2012. This led me to asking a whole lot of them and seeing if they would publicly offer up their answers. When a bunch of them did I posted them all as a series of narratives that you all can enjoy via the link below in the event that you somehow missed them when they ran or if you are a new reader. You might find it interesting to see which of these Metal Resolutions had come to fruition over the course of this past year or maybe you just would enjoy getting a glimpse into an artists brain for a moment.

So why the reflection on the series from last year? Well, I am glad you asked because since it worked out so well in 2011 and was something that I really loved being able to present to you, I have decided to do it again and our new series will begin running on 12/26 until just after 2013 begins. The 2011 Series had a full 70 quotes from the artists and as I look at my email for what is coming in for the 2012 Series, I can already honestly say that we have surpassed that number. That is a very cool thing for sure. For this year’s series I made one minor change and that was to easily allow some other participants; The change was swapping “Metal” for “Music” and asking “What Is Your New Year’s Music Resolution for 2013”

To see what they had to say, check back with the Official Blog for PiercingMetal on 12/26

“And now the end is near, and so I face the final curtain” That was how Frank Sinatra sang it right? Well, while I don’t mean it in exactly the same dramatic sense that Frank did we are at the official end of 2011. How was it for you? Did you enjoy it? Did you hate it beyond all reproach? All in all I hope that some good came your way as opposed to bad and if not, the time is almost here to start one more time all over again. It’s also time for me to continue sharing some of the music worlds New Year’s Metal (or Musical) Resolutions for 2012 with you. This feature has been great fun and I already want to do this again next year (unless lottery winnings find me living on some remote island with no Internet access). Dig in my friends.

John Comprix (guitars for Beyond Fear/Ringworm/Tim “Ripper” Owens): My New Year’s Metal Reso is too complete some personal solo stuff I’m doing and go to the shooting range more. I like to blow shit up! And of course write and play more Metal than a human body can withstand.

Marcela Bovio (lead vocals for Stream Of Passion): My New Year’s Musical Resolutions for 2012 are to keep improving my vocal skills, and to take my songwriting skills to another level!

Paul Ablaze (vocals for Blackguard): My Metal Resolution; Well I suppose the obvious resolution would be to write an even better follow up to our last record “Firefight”. We’re currently starting to get ideas down and I’m excited to see what direction we go. On a more personal note I’m currently learning piano and would resolve to be somewhat proficient in it one day LOL.

So as we hit the three days left in 2011 mark let me ask you something. Did anyone else think that the year flew by us at a record pace? I know it did for me and perhaps this instant society we are living in with the Internet being such a core of our daily happenings and Facebook/Twitter addictions being par for the course are the reasons. Whatever the case may be here we are once more in our presentation of the “New Year’s Metal Resolutions for 2012” from some of the finest musical people that I have had the opportunity to interact with. Please enjoy our fantastic fourth chapter.

Johnny Kelly (drummer for Type O Negative, Seventh Void, A Pale Horse Named Death): Not sure if I have a resolution or not. My first one isn’t music related and that’s to stop smoking! My musical one though is to keep working hard to be able to do something that I still love doing. I want to see great things happen for APHND and I want the new Seventh Void record to come out in 2012!

Steve Blaze (lead guitarist for Lillian Axe): …to become a better, more patient human being. This will enable me to become more well rounded and pure iin all aspects of what I feel are the important elements of a truly great musician. Talent is one aspect but the soul and spirit are what drive it to its limits.

Margarita Monet (lead vocals for Edge Of Paradise): My New Year’s Metal Resolution is, besides writing the best song ever made, to further solidify and spread the heavy sound of my band. It’s not very common these days that bands have their own sound distinguishing them from thousands of other bands, like Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden have, when you hear their songs, you instantly know that it’s Sabbath! So this is the New Year’s resolution, to strive to create epic music with a sound that’s unique to ourselves and of course to tour the world and make everyone hear it 🙂
