Hello again my friends, you have landed on my continuation of the coverage from the 2023 New York Comic Con that had taken over the Javits Center a few short weeks ago. My more tenured readership know full well just how much I get done at this event. From the Day To Day focuses to social media photo takeovers and plenty of Interviews for the YouTube Channel. I’m hardly interested in doing cosplay and having others tell me it looks cool or things that I might purchase. Of course I do buy some things along the way but its not the reason I’m sporting a Press badge. What I’ve also been doing of late is some Special Feature photo narratives and by doing it this way I can have the companies shine brighter on their own. Now its time to continue with the features and present to you the Alex Ross Gallery and Disney Books. Let’s go.
It’s without question that Alex Ross is one of the greatest and most inspired of the artists we’ve gotten to enjoy the works of over the years and during the New York Comic Con, he had a small gallery presentation where a wide number of his paintings and sketches could be purchased by those with the necessary cake to do such things. Love all this stuff as much as I do, I will be sticking with the work we find on his actual comic book covers but maybe one day right.
This was a really awesome pavilion to explore and I was happy to feature it for you. I should mention that Alex Ross was NOT present at the gallery, at least when I was visiting so I am not sure if he popped in during the convention or not. I would have loved to have a chat with him. During my visit there was a signing going on by the great Bill Sienkiewicz. There was too long of a line for me to get a proper shot but I did share some of the works he had on display in the Day by Day posts. Now onto the next portion of the feature. Disney Books.
The folks from Disney Books had a very nice pavilion with all sorts of books that feature their properties. As the owners of the Star Wars and Marvel properties there were plenty of these types of books to enjoy and most are for the younger readers with a few that might appeal to geeks like myself. I was interested in the “Look Out For The Little Guy” that we saw in the “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania” film and probably also the “Star Wars Timelines”. The latter being helpful with the run of shows that I’d like to know the historic framing of.
As you can see there is a little something for all young readers in the batch that I focused the camera lens on. What I love most about Disney Books is that these kinds of reads will likely inspire some comic book collecting and that kind of stuff makes attending this event even better an experience. I’ll wrap up here and share that I do have enough for one additional special feature focus but I am not going to let you know what they are just yet. I have to have some surprises after all.
