The New York Comic Con for 2024 has officially taken over the Javits Center and believe me when I say that the place is packed to the brim with all sorts of geeky coolness. Last night I burned the midnight oil to cobble together some of the sights and scenes and now its time to start premiering our findings. Before continuing along, if you want to read all of the NYCC 2024 stuff just click the hyperlinked text to launch a new browser tab. Presented down below is my usual presentation of the NYCC Press Badge. I spruce this up a little of course and was surprised to find an Anime show being the focus. This is my 14th straight year attending in the media capacity.
For me, the New York Comic Con coverage begins the moment I snap my first photo of the day and while exiting the “7” train I ran into a Spider-Man 2099 cosplayer. This young man was attending his second ever NYCC. By the way I will likely be typing “NYCC” for the duration of these narratives over “New York Comic Con” to save myself some typing punishment.
Once inside the spacious Javits Center, we met some super cool cosplayers and had some brief engaging chat. There was a Princess Leia, Wolverine, Deadpool, or was she supposed to be Nicepool, Poison Ivy and a next generation Decepticon Starscream. By the way, at first I thought he was Megatron but I was corrected despite realizing my mistake.
If you’ve never attended a New York Comic Con before, you should know that its not always easy to just head into the main expo floor since there are so many amazing costumes to see by the cosplayers that are hanging around in what is known as the Crystal Palace. I was super impressed by this Scarlet Witch who had her own levitating Darkhold on hand.
The Predator that you see here is the one and only Barbie Chula. I met her a number of years ago at the Winter Con in Queens and we’ve kept up ever since. She is truly one of the most talented designers that I’ve met and her work is often absolutely terrifying. Nice work Barbie now get back to the hunt.
At this point in my own history of NYCC, I have photographed thousands and thousands of people. I don’t recall offhand if I ever snapped a picture of the US Agent.
Even Dogbert was here.
Truth be told I was not following any particular mission plan at the onset and figured I’d head down into the Artist Alley. When it all comes down to it I end up getting a lot of video content down here and right off the bat I see this Sandstorm signage. My hope is to learn a little more about this over the four days.
Let’s pause a moment to share some very important practices and rules from the organizers of the New York Comic Con. Never forget that cosplay is NOT consent. Sure some of the outfits might be NSFW but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t always be on your best behavior. Getting reported could find you banned from this and future conventions and no one wants that.
Here’s artist Tim Seeley who was working on a sketch but found time to give me a smile.
I forgot to show you this one before I headed down but in a couple of hours this space will be all but unnavigable.
Artist Andrea Kendrick who we met for the very first time at an event called Flame Con several years ago.
The great Jim Salicrup was on point and its always nice to see him.
Some of the works from Jody Houser and of course Jody herself.
Clay Mann showing off some cool Batman work that he did.
When Marvel Studios released the “Captain Marvel” film, all I ever saw at NYCC was the female version of the character and not the original Mar-Vell, Kree Warrior. Until now that is. Nice work on this classic cosplay.
Our friend Creees was here and working on sketches and apparently some surprises that he would not reveal to me. Don’t worry, I will do my best to get the details out of him.
We met Josh Trujillo for the first time this year and that was great.
We also met Erica Schultz for the first time and had a chat that you will find on our YouTube Channel. Erica is the writer of so many awesome Marvel Comics series such as “Daredevil”, “Blood Hunters”, “Hallows Eve” and more.
This was an interesting cosplay. Superman and SHAZAM mashed up.
Gwenpool is always up to some kind of shenanigans.
Since I know the organizers I’m sharing that the next “Kaiju Brooklyn” event will be taking place in late May of 2025. It’s far too early to know if I will be in attendance. For me this always depends on what else is scheduled.
The great Andy Kubert.
Lucas Meyer and Missus Meyer
Another cosplay that I cannot recall ever seeing before is Grifter who was a member of the Wildcats. That was initially an Image Comics release but then DC Comics took that one on.
Princess Leia was looking ravishing in her servant attire.
It’s not easy to stop Sonic The Hedgehog but I did.
Doctor Reed Richards is going to find himself in some fantastic trouble by posing with Captain Marvel instead of Susan but he should be fine as long as he doesn’t stretch the truth about it all. See what I did there? I know, I know. Moving along.
I don’t often see a Raven from the Teen Titans cosplaying in the white outfit so I was excited to snag a photo of this young lady in her finest attire.
The Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader was on the show floor securing recruits for the Galactic Empire and the 501st Legion who we have yet to encounter. Thanks for pausing from your mission milord now you can get back to hunting that Rebel scum.
That’s going to bring me to the end of this first installment of many. Those who’ve been following the website for any length of time already know that we go full out in terms of coverage of an event like the New York Comic Con. There will be plenty of day by day examinations along with a stockpile of special features. I will be doing videos and of course a takeover of the Instagram so stay tuned. While you wait, I encourage your support and participation of the site and our myriad of social media platforms. These days I am using a Linktree for PiercingMetal to encapsulate it all as opposed to typing every single link. That gets to be time-consuming when you have a lot of posts to write. Just click the hyperlinked text for our links. See you back here soon.
