Oh yes my friends, its time to get excited because you have arrived at the very first official post of the photo editorial takeover and event overview that PiercingMetal is serving up from the famed New York Comic Con which began this past Thursday. As you read this I am heading there for the fourth and final day but the coverage you’ll see is starting from the very top. The 2023 convention marks my 13th straight year of attendance in an official capacity as media and as expected there is a ton of awesome to share with you from this kind of event. The plan remains a constant with lots of photography and I’ll also be looking into some Artist Alley interviews if the talent is interested in doing them with me. Now before I get started let’s showcase the spiffy Press Badge for 2023. I loved that it has a black cat with a camera based on what I do and since I love black cats. To see all of the New York Comic Con 2023 posts in a new window just click HERE since this stuff is always best enjoyed from the very beginning.
I wasn’t even inside the Javits Center when I decided to get my very first cosplayer photo which was this young fan in his Blue Beetle best. Did you see this film? Did you like it? On we go.
Doctor Strange was onhand to greet us and we know its a safe environment with his presence for sure.
So I’m guilty of never having watched “Good Burger”, but this is the car from the show. Much like last year’s “Back To Future” DeLorean, you could only get so close.
Straight ahead lies all of it and since my plan is to come every day I am going to be handling this tactically. Last year I began doing those Short clips for social media so there is a “We Are Here” brief to enjoy on our YouTube Channel. I’ll be embedding each day’s arrival clip at the close of each day’s coverage so I can laud the Channel a little louder.
Our friends at The Pop Insider (also Toy Insider) had a nice booth with lots of giveaways and prizes to be tried for by spinning the wheel. This was a drive by since they were already so busy.
Since there are going to be a ton of posts to share with the masses, I will not be typing in every single superhero name that we chance upon. I think if you are reading this website and a fan of the convention events that we do you know full well about who is who. Of course I say that but had to love this Sasha Calle version of Supergirl from “The Flash” movie.
Lots of artists to visit and try to get quality content for you all to enjoy. Here’s Dirk Manning who we did a spot with last year. It’s early in the convention for me so I am not too sure that I will be doing second go rounds with the same folks. Who knows.
The legendary Walt and Weezy Simonson were at a table right near our friend Keith Williams so I had to get a snap before the line to meet them got out of hand.
Here’s the always amazing Barbiechula. I’ve known her for a few years of conventions now and truth be told, her skills at scaring the pants off of everyone gets better each and every time. This is her “Ring” cosplay, Samara I think is the character name. Sorry I am not 100% up on that film.
Back in the heavy comic collecting days, the “Fantastic Four” was one of my most often and very favorite reads. This cosplay group brought that spirit to life and in case you have been under a rock that’s Terrax The Tamer, The Thing, Invisible Woman, Human Torch Mister Fantastic, Doctor Doom, Galactus and Silver Surfer.
The fact that Galactus was being cosplayed to scale was awesome and that’s why the Silver Surfer is the action figure in his palm. Well done my friends. Well. Done.
Here’s David Mack who I am always happy to include in coverage. My first go at his work was with “Kabuki”, and did you know he created “Echo”? This Daredevil character will have her own show on Disney+ in a couple of months.
It’s Jae Lee!!! I’ll try and make a point of talking to him if his schedule permits such things.
That’s Chris Hamer and the Missus at his Urbnpop Booth. Its always nice to see him at NYCC and to talk a little Metal.
Peach Momoko had so many people waiting for her to sign things it was wild to see in person. This is the closest I could get to the amazing artist.
I don’t know what this cosplay was but it was so cute.
Wow that is a lot of Loki variants.
This is the team from “Planet Atmos” and an interview was done with them and will be featured on the YouTube soon. Links to all that stuff will be in the end of the post as usual.
Dean Haspiel and Peter Rostovsky were sharing a table.
These were some cool boxes from Topps and the folks were lining up to secure them. I’m not the biggest trading card collector anymore but used to be bigtime. Last year, Topps had a scavenger card hunt going on but I didn’t see anything like that this time around. Too bad, it was fun to do that.
I’ll wrap up with the folks from Sumerian Comics. They have a lot of cool stuff going on but truth be told I don’t have any of the titles or am on a list to examine them as a reviewer. With the connection to Sumerian Records they have a pool of some interesting artists to feature in their comic releases.
That’s going to bring me to the end of this first installment but don’t worry there is plenty more to share with you from this years New York Comic Con. The longtime site visitors already know how much I like to break these posts into no more than “50” photos each to allow for easier digestion. Doing it this way also gives all of the folks that were showcased the ability to find themselves easier and share on their own social media. Speaking of Social Media, the readership is going to want to make sure that they are following and engaging on our networks of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. There’s going to be posts on most of them during the convention and of course going forward and we love having you along for the ride. I’ll be back with more soon so please stay tuned and thanks for stopping by.
