The time has come my friends and that means the photo editorial takeover of the PiercingMetal website by the famed New York Comic Con which began yesterday at the Javits Center. The 2022 convention will mark my 12th year of attendance and as expected there is a lot to absorb at this kind of event. I’ll be doing a LOT of photography and also will be looking into some Artist Alley interviews if the talent is interested in doing them. Now before I get started let’s showcase the spiffy Press Badge. Time to get to work. To see all of our New York Comic Con posts in a new windows just click HERE.
I wasn’t fully even inside the main expo floor when I ran into a familiar mutant couple with Rogue and Gambit. Nice to see you both.
Now this was cool. I’ve mentioned on several posts how I worked in COVID Safety on Broadway for a number of months so seeing a live advertisement for the upcoming “Back To The Future” The Musical was pretty cool.
I’ve just gotten into doing the short form videos for our YouTube and figured that our arriving at the New York Comic Con is a perfect thing to announce so please enjoy before we get into the thick of things.
As is the typical happening with the NYCC, we will be overwhelmed by awesome cosplayers. I’m planning on taking photos of a lot of them but I will not always be chiming in about them since there is so much to do. I will point out this super cool Captain Carter though.
I wasn’t focused on any one section once I got inside and decided to see some friends in the Artist Alley. We said hello to Dirk Manning and even did an interview with him that will go live on our Official YouTube Channel.
The dudes at DMC Comics, Darryl Makes Comics were on point but the legendary Darryl McDaniels from RUN DMC was at a panel. We’ll see him at some point across the weekend as the plan is to attend all four days.
These two charming ladies were helping keep the traffic flowing through the ComiXology booth and answering questions about the artist appearances. I just had to add them to this chapter of our extended coverage.
We spotted Lord Darth Vader walking in but didn’t bother him since that’s never really a good idea.
Topps had a super cool presentation as always. Some freebies to hunt down which consisted of “9” different “Garbage Pail Kids” cards. It was very early in the convention and proving hard to secure the first card from them. I am now officially on a mission.
They were also giving away another NFT and this was also focused on the GPK license. Last year it was a Godzilla one and while my intention was to do a reveal video, I never managed to get around to it since life got busier than expected. Maybe this year I will do it once all the convention posts have run out.
There is some new awesome from the Coheed & Cambria folks as these action figures, props and new books showcase.
Cool photo op at the Genshin Impact booth.
This “All Of The Marvels” book intrigues me with its title along. I need to start making a list of things I need to follow up on when the convention is over.
I stopped to say hello to David Crownson of “Harriet Tubman Demon Slayer” fame, and he had some cool things to say about his creation that I am not yet at liberty to share.
The publisher section which is Simon and Schuster, Penguin, Abrams and more all had some nice booths and some even had takeaways. These buttons were awesome, I only lined them up for the photo and took the horror one.
This pin was my favorite of them all, at least for this far into the convention. I could almost hear the great James Earl Jones saying it. Now you can too ;p
The Bandai Namco booth had a lot of cool things going on and several statues.
While I am very green about the character, I do love what I know about Ultraman and definitely want this action figure.
As we head towards the end of this installment, I say behold the queen of the shapeshifters – Mystique. Great job Miss, whoever you were under all this makeup and paint.
That’s going to bring me to the end of this first installment but don’t worry there is plenty more to share with you from the event. Longtime site visitors already know how much I like to break these posts into no more than “50” photos each to allow for easier digestion. It also makes all of the folks that were showcased the ability to find themselves and share on their social media. During the convention I will be posting to our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and brand-newish TikTok profiles so please make sure that you are following along with those by clicking each of the respective hyperlinked text. See you with more soon, thanks for stopping by.
