The awesome Anime NYC convention had returned to New York City once again and at the time of this writing/posting, is currently in the middle of its second day. This post however will be bringing you some of the images and thoughts that took place on the first day. It’s here where I suggest that you click this TAG as it will launch a new browser tab and everything that I post from Anime NYC 2025 will be lined out in the order that it was posted. So as expected I was once again bringing the PiercingMetal outlet into the convention as a member of the media and I am one of those folks who will start talking to cosplayers even on the train in.
My chatty vibe found me meeting a bunch of Spider-Man family cosplayers and while I felt that they were heading into the wrong event, I wasn’t going to pass up the chance to snap them. The same applies for this next kind pair who said they were attending for the first time if I am remembering correctly.

The Anime NYC Show Guide is stocked with information on what is happening where and always something fun to bring home from the event. Below it you can see the mapping of the Javits Center and just how much ground I needed to cover.
Having secured the press badge I decided to walk around the perimeter a little bit as the convention itself had not yet opened. I’ll share the press badge visual later on in my Day One missives but first here is a cosplayer dressed as Stocking Anarchy. I didn’t know that one at all.
So at the time of these early images the convention was queuing up the attendees so they could make their way into the convention. Today was actually the very first time that they were doing a Thursday and it would open in the afternoon for a few hours. Not a full day of course but maybe when the con returns for its next go round.
The upside of the convention being in the summer months now is the fact that its not super cold out. Does anyone remember that year when the masses were left out in the cold and it was unseasonably frigid. That was a nightmare for so many.
Let’s head on into the proper convention.
Here’s the booth of the ladies from Cosplay Deviants. I will not be able to show you what’s inside for a couple of reasons. The first is because there is a whole lot of naked presented in there and the second was based on my not doing more than stopping at the booth and snapping these two photographs.
Always great to see a Hatsune Miku at this kind of convention.
Maid cosplays are a common sight at an event like Anime NYC. I always found it to be a cute and easy costume to do. Maybe next year I will do that to be different. Just kidding.
Fun socks…
Here’s the Geeky Robots!
This duo was a Goth Hatsune Miku and I loved that creativity.
I didn’t know the character that this young lady was portraying but she looked so awesome I just had to add her to the run of narratives.
These next couple of photos were promotional models for some sort of game or card thing. I need to find the handout the gave me but have misplaced it at the time of my trying to get you the story as fast as possible.
This is the awesome photo-op that stands in the lobby of the Javits Center during Anime NYC. Attendees are able to go inside this and have their photo snapped by their friends. There is no convention photographer doing this for you.
For some reason I enjoy the character of Tokyo Ghoul but maybe because his name is Ken as well. This seemed to be a mashup of that character and a butler. Am I incorrect on this?
This cosplay was a complete mystery to me. Anyone know who this is?
When you are in the Javits there is a whole section where professional photographers have set up shop to do photoshoots. They all seem to have regular badges and not Media ones and they pretty much block a bit of the thoroughfare. I think they need to be in their own space away from the foot traffic for everyone to be able to do their thing. My two cents.
Behold the sign for the Press Office. Truth be told I don’t spend a lot of time in there outside of checking in to say hello to the team and to get my tech in order. Over the years I’ve seen folks that sit in the press room endlessly talking and talking and talking. We are not here to do that over exploring and documenting. Soapbox rant over.
That’s going to bring me to the end of the first of many installments from Anime NYC 2025 and I hope that you’ve enjoyed what you’ve seen so far. As you know, I will return tomorrow with an additional “50” images for the next post and continue along until I’m done.
