December 8th is a sad day for music fans all over the world as this is the day that the legendary member of The Beatles, John Lennon, was murdered by Mark David Chapman in front of his home at the Dakota Hotel only hours after signing a copy of his latest album “Double Fantasy” for him. Mr. Lennon was only 40 years old at the time and surely had worlds of music left to share with everyone. Today is the 40th Anniversary of his death and we bow our heads respectfully and share the incredible candid image of John in a NYC t-shirt that was snapped by the great Bob Gruen.
The surviving members of The Fab Four, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, each took to their Twitter today to offer up a brief statement about John. I’ve embedded those for the readership down below.
A sad sad day but remembering my friend John with the great joy he brought to the world. I will always be proud and happy to have known and worked with this incredible Scouser! X love Paul#JohnLennon

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I don’t have much more to add about this sad anniversary other than the words of “Thank You John” for the music that you gave us and the desire to live peacefully with each other. We should all be striving for this especially under the circumstances that we are now in around the world. So much division, so much hatred and to what end? Let’s all look to give peace a chance when its possible to do so. As the holidays approach us faster and faster, let’s look to be kind to each other. It’s can’t hurt to give it a go. Let’s also remember the terrible anniversary of “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott of Pantera and Damageplan who was murdered on stage during a show by a crazed fan. We miss you as well Dime.
