I’ve been catching the band Like A Storm for a few years now and think that I have caught them in concert about five times over the course of just as many years. That being said I think I can safely say that with each and every go-round the band impresses me more and more up on the stage with their brand of sonic assault. For the unschooled in the name, the band consists of three brothers from New Zealand with Chris, Matt and Kent Brooks on bass, guitars and vocals. The brothers are completed by Zach Wood on drums and together they have offered up a smoldering new single called “Pure Evil”.

Now having seen the band I feel like a pretty decent judge of their sound and I’ve always felt they were quite commercially viable based on tracks like “Love The Way You Hate Me” and with this new single the band shows a level of musical growth that is commendable. It’s a much heavier tune but not one that would distance their existing fans as much as it will embrace plenty of new ones. There is a pounding groove and some interesting growling vocals behind Chris’s clean ones. Though I didn’t hear any didgeridoo from the musician, the song is richly layered and quite appealing at the end of the day. I think this will be a great part of the bands live set and I strongly suggest that you check them out should you see them included on anyone else’s touring run. The press copy said that a video will be coming soon for the tune but it didn’t mention a full-length album so I guess there is still some wait time for that. This will likely be a tasty aural treat for all their fans when a new disc is at the ready. Check this out for the nominal cost, its worthy of the expense for sure.
