It was just a short time ago that the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame revealed the nominations for the “Class of 2025” and though I didn’t manage to watch the announcement live, I am happy to share the rundown and some editorial thoughts on it all. Let’s check out the graphic first and then I’ll type it for those who might not see it clearly enough.

The Nominations: Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Mana, Oasis, Outkast, Phish, Soundgarden and The White Stripes.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: In the interest of time and based on having far too many other agenda items to address, I will not wax on and on about the nominations outside of a few key points. First up, the artists that I hope get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Starting off with Soundgarden, Bad Company, Billy Idol, Chubby Checker and Black Crowes. No disrespect intended but I left my list this time to be exclusively Rock and Roll. If Soundgarden doesn’t get in it would be a travesty and with Chubby Checker having released a song that pretty much launched a generation of Rock would also be bad if he didn’t get in. The others I’d like to see get in but for the sake of Rock itself. Now onto who I think will get in for the “Class of 2025”. I feel Mariah Carey and Cyndi Lauper go right in. They always choose a Rap act so that falls to Outkast. It will leave two open slots and part of me feels they go to Oasis and Black Crowes over the others.

Artists that have been overlooked once again would be Boston, Scorpions and of course Iron Maiden who didn’t even get a second year of nomination after not making it in last time around. I think its fair to say that the Trans-Siberian Orchestra belongs in the Hall based on their ore than two decades of incendiary concerts and charitable donations since the beginning but hey that’s just my view.
