Hello again my friends and welcome back to some more coverage from the New York Comic Con for 2022. So as I’ve just wrapped up the Day Three visuals, I wanted to pause for a moment and shine the spotlight on two of my favorite companies. As you know, the PiercingMetal outlet has been going to the Toy Fair since 2011 but pandemic pauses and changes found it being moved to the Fall of next year. With no Toy Fair in 2022, it made good sense to visit the toy companies we know well and lend them some love. This post features some visuals from both NECA and Playmobil. I’ll start with NECA and if you are only just now joining us and want to see the full NYCC presentations from the beginning just click HERE to do that.
NECA always has a lot of cool stuff and here are some of the new additions to their “Toony Terrors” line of action figures. These are essentially the movie monsters and antagonists done as if they were in cartoons. The idea is brilliant when you think about it.
Alf is always a timeless character but I fear that most of my readership only remembers him from reruns nowadays. I’d love to binge-watch that show and wonder if its on anything that I subscribe to.
Sir Elton John in his baseball uniform and WITH a grand piano is a must-have for collectors of music themed action figures.
Since they do music figures you should know that the folks at NECA are all about the Metal and here are figures of Angus Young and Bon Scott from AC/DC. They used to do a lot of “Eddie” the Iron Maiden mascot but not at the moment.
Some “The Munsters” and “Creepshow” figures that looked really great.
They have the Universal Monsters license and are putting out some highly detailed action figures of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, Invisible Man and The Wolf Man.
If you are a fan of “The Predator” franchise, the folks at NECA have you covered with their wide variety of figures from the films and beyond. They also made a whole bunch of Aliens as well but I didn’t see them on display this time at NYCC.
The is the Mistress of The Dark and you know you will swear your allegience to her. I am speaking of Elvira and they have a terrific action figure of her. Hopefully some smart convention attendees grabbed this and got it signed by Elvira herself since she was here this year.
That’s it for the NECA side and now let’s see some of the cool that was found at the Playmobil booth.
Now you might be saying that Playmobil is aimed at the little kids and I think I’d have to prove you wrong because this massive “Star Trek” USS Enterprise is NOT something you get the younger set. It’s rather pricy at about $500 but holy mackeral is it awesome. Please enjoy a few shots of this item.
I love how you can open up the top of the Enterprise and see the bridge. It’s got all of the stations for the Federation crew and as you can see they are all there. Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Sulu and Checkov. I didn’t see a Scotty but I am sure that Playmobil made him as well.
When you have an Enterprise you must also have a Klingon Bird Of Prey and I just loved the design of this. They can hang suspended from your ceiling if you wanted to do that but I think I’d prefer them on something level but higher away from hands that can damage anything, or pets that can damage anything. The Bird Of Prey will run you almost $400 but hey if you are a Star Trek fan and have the extra scratch you should treat yourself.
Playmobil is going classic on some of these and here is the “Knight Rider” KITT and Michael Knight.
The James Bond Aston Martin with 007 and Odd Job.
They’ve even added “The A-Team” to the mix so all of the vintage collectors have something cool from this company.
Let’s not forget the “Back To The Future” set which while a little older by a couple of years remains relevent. I can start that movie for a few minutes and end up watching the whole thing. The set includes Doc Brown and even Einstein. I definitely want to get my hands on the Knight Rider set and the BTTF one. I also loved the Scooby-Doo set they made with the whole Mystery Team and Van but that wasn’t on display today. The Playmobil booth isn’t a massive one but they manage to fit a lot inside for the collectors who are at NYCC.
Another new license for the company is the hit Anime Naruto. They’ve got about a dozen different characters and I am unsure if these will be blind bags or collectors sets. I would prefer a collectors set myself instead of being on the hunt for each of the figures that I need to build a collection. As we’ve just come out of a pandemic, the money is tighter for a lot of people and they are being more cautious about purchases. Good stuff either way and always fantastic to see Playmobil at events and their reps.
That brings me to the end of this special side-feature from the New York Comic Con coverage. I might have some additional images to load in one or two more posts of this kind after I do all of the Day Four stuff which comes at you tomorrow. Since that is the final day of NYCC you’re definitely going to want to set a reminder to come back around lunchtime since that is when I have been posting these articles.
