This past Friday, March 9th – The Legendary Judas Priest released their 18th album with “Firepower”. In honor of the Metal Magnus Opus, the fine folks at Sony Square NYC have set up a small gallery of photographs, memorabilia and stage attire. Since I had to be in the city for the Michael Schenker Fest performance at Irving Plaza, I paid a visit to the store to see the gallery and shoot some photos and video for those too far away to get here themselves. The photos video were shot with the Samsung point and shoot while the Facebook Live and Instagram stuff were done with my new Galaxy Note 8. Let’s take a look at the video first shall we?
Pretty cool right? Now let’s share the photos of the exhibit on their own to allow for better appreciation of the mighty band. That first thing we saw was an interactive screen and it would do what you did. I tried to make it give the METAL HORNS and you can see me trying to type notes down in the left hand corner.
The t-shirt looked awesome and I was NOT sure as to whether this was a Pop-Up Shop exclusive or not nor did I get the price for it. My apologies but the staff was very nice and would be glad to answer your inquiries if you contact them.
Secured away in a sturdy cage were several iconic band stage costumes. In these confines were a couple of Rob Halford’s long leather coats along with some other items from the years gone by.
There were two sizable racks set up on on them were “10” of the bands works on vinyl. Pictured from top left to bottom right are “Sin After Sin”, “Stained Class”, “Hell Bent For Leather” (or “Killing Machine” to some of you), “Unleashed In The East”, “British Steel”, “Point Of Entry”, “Screaming For Vengeance”, “Turbo”, “Angel Of Retribution” and “Redeemer Of Souls”.
Here’s a closer look at them. I admit that I was surprised to not find a copy of “Defenders Of The Faith” in here.
Let’s not forget to showcase the reason that this gallery is here in the first place which is the bands brand new album “Firepower”. If you bought the album on Friday you received a wristband that would permit entry to the bands signing that will take place on 3/19 in this location. I was told by the staff that some wristbands remain so if you think you can attend you should look into getting one while you can. As you can see they have the “Firepower” album available on both CD and LP.
The one thing that I neglected to snap a photo of was the lyrics for “Lightning Strike” which I thought I had gotten. I got caught up in talking to the staff and distracted myself but it was only two pieces of handwriting on loose leaf paper. Oh and before we go, take a look at the PiercingMetal branding now that it’s been given the Judas Priest treatment. This fun “name generator” can be explored by clicking on ours below.
I haven’t gotten my copy of “Firepower” yet but its on the way and that means a full review is coming soon also. So far I’ve only scoped out the singles that were released with “Lightning Strike”, “Firepower” and “Never The Heroes”. If you haven’t learned what we thought about those tracks yet please check them out. The “Firepower” tour will begin in the coming days and sadly will no longer feature one of the bands founding members Glenn Tipton who has stepped down from touring based on being afflicted with Parkinson’s disease. That news was shared HERE for those in the unaware.
Congratulations to Judas Priest on the 18th album and the forthcoming world tour. I can hardly wait to see you all in action again. Thanks also to Sony Square NYC who were so helpful and accomodating for this little Metal Media Mission that I undertook. Make sure you pay a visit if you are near enough to do so. It doesn’t take long to explore and can be done during one’s lunch hour or before heading home from work at a reasonable hour.
