There’s been some publicly broadcast concern over the last few weeks about the visibility or rather the lack thereof of the Official Pages that many mediums and personality have been using to engage their friends, fans and followers and while I was not originally going to throw my own two cents into the mix I figured that I might as well so our own readers know where I am standing on the matter.
Several weeks ago there were a couple of videos making their way around the webs that looked deeper into the practices that Facebook was doing with the Fan Pages in terms of the “Likes” process and rather than explain it all to you any further I will say just check out the clips because they are so illuminating. The narrator lines out how the reach and likes are somewhat questionable and that often when one pays for these ads that generate likes that the engagement of your hard creative work is compromised since there is not as much as you think.
Pretty interesting right? So what’s my plan for PiercingMetal’s Official Page on Facebook? Will I disable it?
No, not at all. While its limited in its reach based on being a non-funded page these days, I am leaving it in place for those who do somehow see the posts that we make while its possible to do so. What I have heard is that fans need to be more on top of the pages that they like. I welcome shares of the various posts about articles on the main site or blog and encourage the click of “like” on these items as well since it shows to your own friends. Based on the frequency that I get things online and shared means I will NOT be purchasing any advertisements in Facebook to reach more of you or to reach the folks that have come here willingly and with interest. I’m sorry but the budget that I have for the site is very limited and the money is better spent on more business cards, meeting up with visiting musicians or resources and of course the various accounts that keep the site online in the first place. Believe me this affects all pages so whether you have 1000 Likes/Fans or 1 Million of them, your posts are being seen less than before unless you pay for the ads. I think that admins of pages who do not fund them will eventually get a notice saying for them to pay up or lose the page since its server space that is needed. This is not an unlikely case scenario believe me but let’s address that when it surfaces. If you’d like to zip on over to our Official Facebook you can help change my mind on it by signing on via the code below.
Now that being said I will be extending the use of Google+ and have programmed the WordPress software to publicly share anything I post here on the blog and on the soon to come new framework for PiercingMetal on that network as well. It also will automatically share to Tumblr, Twitter and of course still over to the topic of our discussion Official Facebook Page. It sounds like more work than it actually is Links are below for you to act upon any of this stuff if you so choose. I hope you do since I don’t really want you to miss out on anything we have brewing on the brand. Each of these are easy follows with the exception of the G+ page that you would have to add to a Following Circle. Hey whatever gets the job done. The easiest one to reach me on is the Facebook Page since it has its own mailbox.
Thanks for listening 🙂
