Hey there my readers, we have arrived at that time of the year again and I am speaking of nothing less than the ever expanding and ever fantastic NY Comic Con. For four days this massive event was going to take over the Jacob Javits Center on the West Side of the Big Apple and this year would expand its reach for what they were calling “The Super Week”. This extended presentation would feature special appearances and events outside the normal confines of time at the four days at the Javits but my heavy duty concert calendar for this week was going to keep me from doing all but one of their broadcast events. I’ll speak about that later. The Official Press badge along with the other passes for the Con are decorated with images from “The Walking Dead” and this has been the case for a couple of years now. Time to work that media magic so here we go.
You might remember that last year was the 75th Anniversary of Superman, and this year we would be doing the same sort of hoopla for the Dark Knight himself, the one and only Batman. One of the side sections of the Javits had a massive bat emblem on its wall that could be seen from far away and in this Hall of Justice (for lack of a better term) were representations of many of the Batman costumes that had been portrayed in film over the years. I made sure to snap a shot of each one of them for your viewing pleasure.
This brooding statue was quite dramatic and I think has something to do with the eventually to be released “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” film. Pretty intense don’t you think? Let’s walk through time now, Batman style.
Here’s the costume that Michael Keaton wore in both “Batman” and “Batman Returns” from 1989 and 1992 chronologically. I remember the excitement that was found among my friends and I as we waited on a seemingly endless line in order to see this first proper “Batman” film. That release just celebrated its 25th Anniversary last year and I believe a special edition one can be found on Blu-ray now. I guess I have some shopping to do just in case it is.
Here’s Val Kilmer’s Costume from “Batman Forever”. Interesting take on The Riddler and Two-Face in that one eh?
Along with George Clooney’s from “Batman And Robin”. This was the film that many say killed the franchise and tried to be like the 60’s show without being the 60’s show. I dunno, I still enjoyed some of it myself.
Batman got broodier and nastier with the trilogy that came care of Christopher Nolan scripts and Christian Bale under the cowl. Did you enjoy these three films? I loved the first two but the final chapter not too much.
The cowl will now rest firmly on the head of Ben Affleck for the foreseeable future based on his being cast as the Dark Knight in the upcoming film we mentioned. A lot of the fan geeks are furious about this choice but I am going to wait until the film comes out to see what happens. Perhaps he will surprise us and be the best portrayal of them all. We have time to be concerned about this for sure.
I should add that I was a little disappointed in the lack of representation from the original Adam West series since so many of us first learned about Batman from that particular show and even the way older serials. They should have been included since we are celebrating Batman’s history and they are also a valuable part of it despite their being on the cheesier side. I guess I should have expressed my ire about this to Batman and Alfred when I caught them walking around the Con but I felt they had more important missions to attend to.
Not really sure what this Star Wars themed Cosplayer was doing but it sure looked awesome.
Speaking of awesome, check out this lovely but still very deadly Viper.
Now it was time for me to dedicate some attention to the area known as The Block. In here you will find lots of different vendors of all sorts of super cool things. I’ll be snagging images of Cosplayers as I meet them along the way.
Cool shirts and accessories care of the folks at Clutter Magazine.
A few conventions ago we met Bliss Man and her wonderful Monster Factory creations. She was back at NYCC this year with a new line of plush creatures called the Mythicals and they were superb. I wanted all of them but I held back. Check them out.
Watch out my friends, this Red Hood Cosplayer is up to some truly dastardly deeds.
Monster Island and Deathcat Toys were both sharing a booth at the Con this year and here are some of their wares.
Yeah this evil jester of a Cosplay kind of freaked me out.
Have you ever seen these before? I think they are super and they are right up your alley if you are crazy about the inner workings of the human body. They are “I Heart Guts”. Dig it.
This is So Youn Lee. A very talented artist with some wonderful offerings for sale at Con.
Just a glimpse of the Tokidoki booth that we passed. I see them at Toy Fair every year and fans are just eating up their cute characters and accessories.
Tara McPherson was on hand doing a signing of her latest art book entitled “Lost Constellations” but I didn’t catch her in the photo. My apologies but here is the book at least.
A great Captain America Cosplay and his partner in justice a Black Widow Cosplay.
Lots of booths were selling beautiful art in The Block. Here is one guarded by a pirate.
This booth had lots of famous monsters to sell you and if you look carefully you will see something very familiar to fans of The Misfits.
Here’s the folks at the Thirteenth Floor Gallery.
I wondered what this lovely lass was Cosplaying as and then was informed that she is a children’s book author and artist by the name Of Kiki Han. She calls herself Miss Geeky KiKi and she was pretty darned cool if you ask me. Hopefully we shall cross paths on another Convention Adventure in the future.
This is the booth of Einhorn’s Epic Cookies and they had samples to taste. They were awesome and as the Con goes forward I might be heading back here to get a quick sugar rush.
Now let’s check out some super cool Cosplayers because I really want to showcase a lot of them over these next few days. I’ll admit I didn’t know what this girl was supposed to be so I will just say a Black Widow Cosplay in disguise.
I’m Star Lord Cosplay Man, “Who???” – if you’ve seen “Guardians Of The Galaxy” you will get the reference and I am hoping by now that you have seen this film because it was spectacular worlds and universes of fun. Trust me.
A super cute Lollipop Chainsaw Cosplay.
Funny story about this Sailor Moon Cosplaying Group. When they obliged me with a photo I asked “what version of The X-Men were they cosplaying”. The looks I got were fantastic and then one whispered to the other that they didn’t think that I thought they were X-Men. I was amused but them, not too much. Ha.
The folks at Tunnel Ground (a mobile device game) sure had an interesting way of getting your attention in The Block at this years Con. This lovely was posing with the passerby and dancing a little bit as well. Don’t worry parents, this did not corrupt anyone’s mind at all. They were even giving out temporary tattoos with the games name if you wanted one. I need to check this game out and perhaps do a feature on it if time allows. I am trying to keep the site as diverse as possible after all now that it is all completely using WordPress.
These were awesome and its the company for B-Duck USA. Makers of quality rubber ducks. Oh come on you know you want one so stop acting. I wonder if they have a “Metal Duck”. I need to ask them about that.
“Weapons Of Mass Seduction” is an adults-only sex game so those of you who are not of an appropriate age keep on wandering down The Block. There is nothing for you here. Nice folks, and a clever premise to spice up ones quality time with a partner.
Convention attendees could pose with the King and Queen from Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. Man, I have lived in NYC for decades and have not yet done this particular tourist trap, I mean tourist spot. Sorry, you get jaded sometimes as a resident but this sure does look fun and its something I will be looking into next year for the PiercingKen.com blog. Stay tuned on that side of my media fence as well for any updates.
These DC Universe Cosplayers surely rocked with their depications of Batgirl, Joker and Supergirl.
This pair of lovely ladies were showcasing an RPG or Role Playing Game for the unschooled entitled “Nephilim”. I wasn’t able to do a demo of it since there is only so much exploration time at NY Comic Con.
A member of Skylanders was available for photo-ops if you wanted to brave the heat.
This was the booth taken up by the Dooodolls Company. Cute stuff and as you can see below they had a mascot walking around the Con which makes for fun photos on Facebook or Instagram. Tag properly my friends because you want the world to see that stuff.
The fine folks of Sugar Fueled Art
And Frombie The Friendly Zombie. That was a cute idea.
I just love the Rock Love stuff that designer Allison Hourcade brings to life. Here she is with one of her staff at the Con.
Say “Yes” to the R2D2 Dress! Sorry I love how this looks on the ladies. Thanks for letting me snag this image of you Miss.
Here is the ARH Comix Booth as we passed by.
This is Miss Jessica Nigri, a very famous Cosplayer and her table had a serious line for fans to meet her and purchase photos that she would sign. Not a bad gig if you can do it. Lovely to see you at the Con Jessica.
Alright friends, that is it for the first chapter of the much more to come narratives from this years NY Comic Con. You might have noticed that I treated you all to “56” images this time as opposed to my standard practice of “50” and we did that since there was an evenly dispersed amount for three chapters from Day One. I’ll be back tomorrow with another installment but until then please click on some of the website links below to see more of what these awesome people are up to. You can also examine our posts from a few months ago with the companion convention known as SPECIAL EDITION NYC by clicking its title since that one will be coming around in the summer next year.
