Friday was here and we were now at what amounted to the true beginning of the NY Comic Con for 2011. Yesterday’s preview that we managed to get during the Press, Professionals & VIP Ticket Holders day was great, but it was only a three hour tour of what was there and this event is not something that is easily digested in that amount of time by any stretch of the imagination. As mentioned in the first chapter of these adventures I will be breaking the days up into different parts to allow an easier manner of enjoyment. I snapped a lot of photos and the Press adventuring continues now.
Once again joining me for the Con would be Skeleton Pete as he was mapping out his own coverage on his blog. The weather on Friday was being reported on the questionable side so we arrived at the Javits Center shortly after the doors to the tremendous space had been opened. As we walked down the street we witnessed a lot of the Cosplayers heading in the same direction and our first photo for the day was this charming Harley Quinn. She surprised me when she said she had remembered me and the website from the Emilie Autumn show that was back in February. Here we see her willing to hench for hugs and with a mini Joker.
Inside these temporary Halls of Justice I ran into a great Hawkman Cosplayer.
Followed up by a terrific Batgirl Cosplay. By the way, each of these particular characters have brand new titles in DC Comics’ “The New 52”. If you somehow missed this great event, please know that I blogged about those titles HERE.
In another chapter I showed you a photo of the mini-Optimus Prime that was in the Kre-O section of the Hasbro part of Comic Con. Here is the Bumblebee that was also there. I could not forget about Bumblebee now could I?
Hey look who is making a comeback as well, it’s the one and only Jem from “Jem and the Holograms”. She looks great and she was not only posing with the fans but handing out a little flyer that she would sign if you asked her politely to oblige you.
My official Jem flyer with penmanship from Jem herself. I’m so lucky.
Remember that Darth Vader we photographed in the other posting? Well, this Stormtrooper was standing on the other side of the command chair. No, there is not someone inside the armor.
Outside in the main lobby I snapped a shot of these two cosplayers. I know one is Deadpool but not sure about the other.
This lovely lady said she was really not supposed to be anyone in particular. We’ll let her slide. I actually thought she was going for the whole Black Widow thing. With The Avengers coming out next year I expect we shall see a lot of that kind of costume at the next Con. I am NOT complaining about that at all 🙂
This was a terrific Archangel if you ask me. Remember when Warren Worthington became this character thanks to Apocalypse? Wow that was some crazy stuff.
We saw a lot of Wonder Women at the Con and all of them were spectacular.
These guys were actually singing and I think it was the “Pokemon” theme song. I have never heard the tune done in a barbershop quartet framework but I do know the Powerglove version.
Here is one of the massive video gaming setups that they had at the Con. These guys are some serious gamers and its like watching an ESPN event when it comes down to it.
Here is Z-Girl. We met this Cosplayer at the Con last year as she was on point for a comic book that was about her. Nice girl so I enjoyed seeing her again. Sadly we did not get a copy of the comic book signed by the heroine herself. Maybe next year.
An AMAZING Black Cat cosplay at one of the artist booths in Artist Alley. This young lovely was a hit for sure and folks were lining up to take pictures with her. I settled on a shot of her alone.
This intrigued me a little more than some other things today as it was one of the first music related things we happened upon. This is Richard Fabio’s “Rockville Station” booth and this is a comic book and animated enterprise that is also using the likeness and some work from the late, great Eric Carr.
Here is Richard with the comic book. It looked like fun stuff and we wish him the very best with it. Richard even had signature guitar picks for the diehard fans to take home with them. He was also a member of the band Pharoah in the 80’s but I admit to not knowing much about this particular group.
X-Force, New Mutants, Youngblood and now the relaunched Hawk & Dove this is Rob Liefeld!!
Next up is Miss Ashley Riot who is of course an animator. We see her giving us a tip of the hat.
Here is the booth for some of the artwork for the “Silent Hill” series. Really creepy stuff for sure.
One of the professional Comic Con interviewers was cosplaying in this Black Widow outfit and she was stunning in it.
This was an interesting booth and showcased the Woolbuddy line of products. All of this stuff is handmade.
Here is a little better view of the Woolbuddy wares. Really nice stuff. I really liked how they made the credit cards accepted in wool also. That was clever.
Here’s the booth for the “Hex The Lost Tribe” comic book. I’m pretty sure that I saw them here last year but do not recall whether I snapped a photo or not. Here is one now just in case. That’s Keu Cha on the far right and he created the title’s character.
And a little bit of a closer look at the comic book itself.
This here is Kevin Kobasic who I knew way back when I served the Marvel Comics command as one of the editorial interns. Kevin is a big supporter of the PiercingMetal efforts and we were glad to see him at the Con. He was showing off his cartoon series “Beanbots” which is about parenting and raising children in today’s world.
Here is a sample of the “Beanbots” strip. Really clever stuff.
Here is Enrica Jang and her series “Azteca”. We met Enrica at one of the Big Apple Comic Cons earlier this year and it was nice to see her again and this megalith of an event.
She was sharing the booth with writer/director Jeff Burns who offers up his “Super Knocked Up” series. This is a web-series where the principle character, a female super-villain, gets knocked up by the super-hero. Now there is a different premise if I ever heard one.
Here’s the series writer/prod/dir Jeff Burns
Here is Kevin Greaves and some of his Kevtoons. I really enjoy his sketches.
With the next year film “The Avengers” coming up, I just had to share one of Kevin’s pieces with you.
I didn’t know who this young lady was supposed to be but I liked this costume a lot so snapped a shot.
Here is a great team supreme of Justice League International Cosplayers with Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. Nice work lads, this was a fun duo to represent.
Here is a book I am very excited about as a lifelong KISS fan. This is the Autobiography of guitarist Ace Frehley and it’s entitled “No Regrets”. I’m told that the book will cover a lot of ground and speak of his KISS years, his solo career and his battles with personal demons. It comes out in a few weeks but fans can pre-order a copy by clicking No Regrets
.
Last year we met Patrick Reilly and he is the creator of “Electrolyte and the Justice Purveyors”. Its a fun book about a hero whose primary power is the ability to cure hangovers. I told him that he should send the character to Finland where I fear he would have his work cut out for him with all the bands to contend with. We see Patrick holding an Electrolyte action figure and this bit of coolness had four sayings. I was amused. Sadly I missed seeing Patrick on the final day of the Con and hence also missed seeing Sparkler again. Oh well.
These next few photos are the folks at the Knight Realms booth. This is a kind of interactive experience that features actors and actresses all focused on the Medieval theme. I admired their festive period garb and gave them a few photos in the presentation. This lovely lass told me she was a big fan of live shows. Of course we sold her on the events calendar we keep on PiercingMetal so she is well informed.
That’s James Kimball on the right, and he is one of the founding creator’s of the enterprise.
And a closing shot of the Knight Realms folks. Seems like some interesting stuff. Look into it if the whole RPG world is up your alley.
At the DC Comics booth they were celebrating the coming release of Lego Superheroes. I was lucky to snare myself a little Lego Batman. They also were giving out a Lego Green Lantern but you could not get both and had to select either or. Oh well. This sure looks cool as a collectible.
These lovely ladies were showcasing the offerings of designer Johanna Sarria. It was nice stuff but in the end this was one of the booths that I felt was a little out in left field when it came to Comic Con. Had this been more “hero related” in design it would have fit right in, but either way it was nice to meet them and snap a photo. Good luck Johanna, I hope you made some new customers here this weekend.
The custom designed bikinis of Johanna Sarria
A cool cosplayer Box Guy and then the same being interviewed.
Dare I say “Barbara Fett” – I know, terrible, but I do that sometimes. I hope I made that up and think I did.
A deadly samurai offers you protection during a Japan visit. There were several Japanese tourism things going on at this years Con.
Here is the Zombie Petz booth, they had their very own Zombie helping to scare up some business.
I thought this young lady was supposed to be cosplaying Marilyn Manson but I was incorrect. Either way she looked smashing and was having a blast at the Con. That is all that mattered.

Great job on the photos! That Unknown Cosplay is I believe a Minecraft character with a Link (from Zelda) skin. I know this because Minecraft is one of my favorite games, haha.
