After an extensive and exhaustive 93 shows worldwide of his “The Ruby Tour: 40 Years of Bauhaus” that concluded this Spring, as well as the aforementioned San Francisco residency, Peter returned home to Istanbul to refresh his energy before taking the stage in NYC. First emerging from the British punk and rock underground in the late 70s, Murphy (along with bandmates Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins) fronted the groundbreaking iconic rock band Bauhaus which spawned four iconoclastic and ultra-seminal albums as well as keystone singles “She’s In Parties”, “Silent Hedges”, and, of course, “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” before disbanding in 1983. Murphy launched a successful solo career that has yielded ten solo albums so far, including his latest LION, released in 2014.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Before I get into my own thoughts please be aware that any of the album residency dates that are highlighted will launch you to this album on Spotify if you click the text. That will allow a refresher on the particular body of work. Now I need to admit to never having followed the music of Bauhaus during its heyday because back in 1978 I had already discovered the glory of Heavy Metal and my three favorites of KISS, Van Halen and Judas Priest. Those bands were quite vibrant and lively so the more solemn and morose vibe of the coming Gothic Music scene was something I didn’t “get”. That being said, I still love when a legendary artist offers up his fans a residency such as this one and while I am in the unschooled side of the musical fence, I’d likely want to catch one of these performances and offer up a site review with some photography. The question remains about which one is the best for the newbie to enjoy. I’m thinking that either the “Greatest Hits” or the tribute to the late great David Bowie are the ones to lock into would work best. Maybe even both of those shows now that I think about it. That’s where you diehard fans come into play as I could really use your suggestions on which to choose. You can also let me know what you think about this residency and how many of the shows you will be planning on attending. Do that stuff down in the comments section below. I will see you next time and be rest assured that I will also be listing these dates on our Regional Events Calendar to make sure you don’t forget when it all draws closer.
