As I played this trailer the media player in my mind started playing the strains of “Kung Fu Fighting” because we seem to be getting a resurgence of these kinds of films thanks to some of the superhero and action properties of the day. Some weeks ago Marvel Studios revealed the Official Teaser Trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings” (seen HERE) and now its time to yell “Go Joe” as the enigmatic Snake Eyes will be the star of his own film in “Snake Eyes: G.I.Joe Origins” from Paramount Pictures. The first trailer from this upcoming film can be enjoyed below along with some other details. I’ll return at the close with some editorial viewpoints. Go get ’em.
The Premise:
A lone fighter is welcomed into and trained by an ancient Japanese ninja clan called the Arashikage, but finds his loyalties being tested when secrets from his past are revealed, as he eventually goes on the path to become the hero known as “Snake Eyes”.
The Cast:
Henry Golding as Snake Eyes
Andrew Koji as Tommy / Storm Shadow
Úrsula Corberó as The Baroness
Samara Weaving as Scarlett
Haruka Abe as Akiko
Takehiro Hira as Kenta
Iko Uwais as Hard Master
Peter Mensah as Blind Master
Steven Allerick as undisclosed role
PiercingMetal Thoughts: While this super short clip looks interesting, it seems as though the studio has taken a great step aside from the source material as we see Snake Eyes face in every shot and as you longtime fans of the GI Joe comics and animated series know – We never got that at all. We also never saw his face in the two other franchise releases so I am not sure what to make of this. Oh yeah and he also doesn’t speak in anything and here is seems to be doing a lot of that. Well, this is an origin but I am pretty certain he began a different way in the comics. The timing is interesting since Marvel Studios will be hitting us with “Shang Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings” in the coming months as well. I’d like to see this film but I need more than a 58 second clip to sell me on it. Also, I am still not 100% sure that I want to be in a crowded movie theater. Sure the restrictions on masks is changing day by day but I don’t trust the honesty of some of the world out there when they say they’ve been vaxxed. Anyway, this isn’t a soapbox but only outlining my own precautions. See you next time and please keep safe.
