Former Mercyful Fate dual lead guitar players Shermann & Denner are back in action with a group that will definately impress the fans of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. The band is called ‘Force Of Evil’ and their self-titled release has yet to leave my CD player. I think I have had 5 full listens already.

“A Night Of Triumph Live” by Triumph

Artist: Triumph
Title: “A Night Of Triumph”
Label: TML Entertainment
Release Date: 05/2004
Genre: Hard Rock
Rating: 8/10

In the event you never realized it. Canada not only provided us with the Masters Of Prog Rock RUSH, but they are also at the fore of bringing us the music of Triumph. This amazing three-piece group ended their career far too early if you ask me. There was never a farewell or retirement tour of any kind. Such things were not as common place as they are today. One day they were very simply gone. The music of Triumph leaned more to the hard rock/metal side at times more so than that of progressive bands. The songs were almost always very easy to appreciate and they did get a sufficient amount of airplay as in their heyday. I remembered that classic rock stations would play more of this type of music than one would expect to hear today. This DVD entitled “A Night Of Triumph” showcases one of the bands last albums in performance before their seemed retirement. That album and tour was for the “Sport Of Kings” record.

I love W.A.S.P. . It’s that simply written in my book. When it came down to explosive showmanship and steady delivery of heavy music or catchy tunes my Friends and I could always count on Blackie Lawless & Company.

This DVD was filmed at the Key Club in Los Angeles, California. Joining Blackie onstage is Chris Holmes on guitar, Mike Duda on bass & Stet Howland on drums. Chris is a mainstay from the first album. Mike and Stet from around “K.F.D.” (though Stet had also done some drumming s since parts of “Kill, Fuck, Die”, and tracks on “The Crimson Idol”. I like his style a lot, solid and heavy with great double kick drums when necessary. I prefer him to Steve Reilly (who I still thought did a fine job under the material W.A.S.P. did at the time).

Feinstein! One hears the name and starts to wonder if bands are running out of names to call themselves. However, this particular outfit is the brainchild of David “Rock” Feinstein former of The Rods and even further back “Elf” where he played the lead guitar. People might be interested in knowing that Rock Feinstein is also the Cousin of the legendary Ronnie James Dio.

“The Neon God: Part 2 – The Demise” by W.A.S.P.

Label: Sanctuary Records Group
Release Date: 9/28/2004
Genre: Heavy Metal
Rating: 7.5/10

Chapter 2 of Blackie Lawless latest opus has just been released and it is a continuation along the same lines musically as the first. Guitarist Darrell Roberts not only manages to kick some serious guitar ass on the CD, but he is very involved in the production of the piece. Originally I was hesitant at his replacing Chris Holmes who I am so used to even a couple of years after his departure. However, hearing these now 3 albums he has done with the band and seeing them live makes me say what a great addition he is to the lineup. He is a commanding presence onstage as well.
