Opening Today: “Pacific Rim” (7/12/2013)

Poster - Pacific Rim - 2013

Having grown up on the giant monster movies of Toho’s time honored past and fondly recalling the days when I would rush home from school to catch the 4:30 Movie’s Monster” week, I can safely say how excited I am about this particular film. Yes, I was one of those kids that was raised on the Godzilla, Gamera, Ghidorah and the assorted King Kong films so the idea of similar monsters going head to head against giant robots for the control of the Earth excites me to no end. For those who might still be sleeping, the movie “Pacific Rim” finds giant monsters or “Kaiju” gaining access to our planet via some sort of inter-dimensional rift and laying waste to a lot of it once they get here. In response, humanity bands together and builds giant robots known as “Jaegers” to fight this menace and hopefully put an end to it. Will we prevail? I guess we have to see the film to know for sure. As I complete this sentence I look up and see my long owned Shogun Warriors figures standing high above my other stuff on the bookcase (I am a geek so there). The Legendary Films feature comes care of director Guillermo Del Toro and he does this kind of stuff really well so I am confident about being entertained throughout. This little post is here as a reminder of the coolness because you know we are big fans of this kind of stuff as much as we are about the comics industry. Will you be seeing this one?

To help you get into the proper spirit of this film, I have embedded a few related items to the storyline with a prequel comic book, some action figures and of course the means to advance order a copy of the film on Blu-ray.
